The Overall Plant
The Windmill Palm is a medium-sized palm tree, typically reaching heights of 25 feet, with a spread of 8 to 12 feet. It is native to central China but has become a popular ornamental plant in temperate regions worldwide. The tree has a single trunk covered in a dense, fibrous matting, which provides insulation against cold temperatures, making it one of the most cold-hardy palms available. Windmill Palms are suitable for USDA hardiness zones 8 to 11, and they can tolerate temperatures as low as 5°F (-15°C) when properly acclimated.
The Foliage
Windmill Palm trees feature large, fan-shaped leaves that can grow up to 3 feet in length. The leaves are divided into numerous narrow segments, giving them a graceful and delicate appearance. These leaves are arranged in a symmetrical crown at the top of the trunk, creating a striking silhouette against the sky. The Flowers and Fruit
