The flowers are not only visually appealing but also beneficial for deterring pests, making them a valuable addition to any vegetable patch or companion planting scheme.
Sow Tagetes Starfire seeds indoors from February to April for earlier blooms, or directly outdoors after the last frost has passed from May to June. Seeds should be sown in a warm, light spot, with seedlings ready for transplanting when they are large enough to handle. When planting out, choose a sunny, sheltered location with well-drained, fertile soil, and space plants 15-20cm apart to allow for their bushy growth. Regular watering and feeding will encourage a healthy display throughout the summer months.
These marigolds bloom profusely from June to October, providing a continuous show of colour. Deadheading spent flowers will promote new blooms and extend the flowering period.
