FAQs - Fluker's Repta Strawberry-Banana Flavored Calcium with Vitamin D3
How does calcium deficiency affect reptiles?
Calcium deficiency in reptiles can lead to severe health issues, including metabolic bone disease, which weakens bones and causes deformities. Symptoms of calcium deficiency include lethargy, soft shells in turtles, and tremors. A calcium supplement with vitamin D3 is essential to prevent these conditions and maintain proper skeletal health.
Can I mix Fluker’s Calcium with water for my reptile?
While Fluker's Calcium is typically mixed with food or applied to feeder insects, it’s not ideal to dissolve it in water. Calcium carbonate may not dissolve well, reducing the effectiveness of the supplement. Stick to dusting food items or insects for better calcium absorption.
How do I know if my reptile needs extra calcium?
Signs of calcium deficiency include soft or misshapen bones, difficulty walking, lethargy, or tremors. Regular health checks by a veterinarian and a balanced diet are key to determining if your reptile requires additional calcium. Always consult your vet before adding supplements.
Can baby reptiles use Fluker's Calcium?
Yes, baby reptiles, especially fast-growing species, benefit greatly from calcium supplementation as they are more prone to calcium deficiencies. However, the frequency and dosage may vary depending on their growth stage, so it's best to consult your vet for specific instructions.
How does UVB lighting affect calcium absorption in reptiles?
UVB lighting is crucial for reptiles because it helps them synthesize vitamin D3, which is needed for calcium absorption. Even with a supplement like Fluker’s, providing UVB lighting ensures your reptile can properly metabolize the calcium for strong bone development.
Is Fluker’s Calcium safe for daily use?
Yes, Fluker’s Strawberry-Banana Calcium with Vitamin D3 is designed for daily use. However, it’s important to follow recommended guidelines to avoid over-supplementation, which can lead to issues like hypercalcemia. Consult your vet for proper dosage based on your reptile’s needs.
Can I use this calcium supplement with reptiles that don’t eat insects?
Yes, Fluker’s Calcium can be mixed with fruits and vegetables for herbivorous reptiles like tortoises and iguanas. Simply sprinkle the powder on their food to ensure they receive the calcium they need for optimal health and bone strength.
How long does Fluker’s Calcium last after opening?
When stored in a cool, dry place, Fluker’s Calcium remains effective for a long period. There is usually an expiration date on the packaging, but as long as it is kept dry and free from contaminants, it can be used until the expiry date for optimal results.
Does Fluker’s Calcium work for turtles kept in water?
Fluker’s Calcium can benefit aquatic turtles, but it should not be added directly to water. Instead, dust their food or feeder insects with the supplement before feeding. Calcium is absorbed through ingestion rather than through water for optimal health benefits.
Can Fluker’s Calcium be used for other pets?
Fluker's Calcium is formulated specifically for reptiles, amphibians, and invertebrates. It’s not recommended for mammals, birds, or other non-reptile pets. Always consult your veterinarian if you’re considering supplements for pets other than reptiles.
