Grow Juicy, Freestone Fruit with the Fast-Growing July Prince Peach Tree

July Prince Peach Tree Produces Large, Firm, Freestone Fruit With Sweet Flavor and Reliable Mid-Season Yields in Home Orchards and Small Farms

  • Hardy in USDA Zones 4-8 and well-suited to warm, humid climates where many peach varieties struggle.
  • Large, freestone peaches with bright yellow flesh, sweet flavor, and a firm texture that holds up beautifully for fresh eating, baking, and canning.
  • Yellow skin with a rich red blush ripens in mid to late July making it a reliable mid-season producer bred for the Southeast.
  • Showy pink spring blossoms offer genuine ornamental value before the fruit season begins.
  • Self-fertile and productive reaching 12 to 15 ft. tall with a rounded, spreading canopy.

The July Prince Peach Tree is a self-fertile, fast-growing tree that produces loads of juicy, yellow freestone peaches perfect for eating fresh or preserving. Expect sweet, aromatic fruit by mid to late summer.

Clusters of bright pink flowers form on the Prunis persica peach ‘July Prince’ during early spring which contrasts the dark green foliage beautifully. The pink blossoms eventually mature into medium to large peach fruit by late summer or early fall. The typical harvest date would be from early to mid-August.

The large fruits are 2-3 inches in diameter and have brilliant shades of yellow and bright red blush on the skin with an inner bright yellow flesh. The July prince peach taste can be described as juicy and sweet with a mild tartness perfect for eating fresh off the tree. A heavy producer with little thinning is needed, the peach fruit will stay on the tree for some time after turning fully ripe and producing color nicely. Make sure you get to them before the birds do!

Plant this flavorful peach tree in the home landscape as a single stand-alone tree, in groups of 3-4 for plenty of peaches to harvest each year, or in flower gardens where the botanical blossoms can be seen and enjoyed during the bloom period.

Why You’ll Love the July Prince Peach Tree

Self-Fertile and Reliable: One tree produces a full crop without a pollinating partner, which simplifies the planting decision for gardeners working with limited space. Cross-pollination from a nearby peach can improve fruit set.

Fruit That Does it All: July Prince produces peaches with genuinely good firmness — a quality that matters more than people realize until they've dealt with soft varieties that bruise in the basket and deteriorate within a day or two of harvest. Fresh off the tree, sliced into a cobbler, put up as preserves, or canned for later, this peach tree does it all!

Freestone Harvests: Freestone peaches are some of the best types of fruit to eat out of the hand! Freestone varieties mean how closely the pit of the peach hangs onto the fruit. Freestone peach tree pits are easily removed and generally larger than clingstone peaches. These are the best peach varieties to use for home canning, freezing, preserves, or baking.

A Spring Show of Pink Blooms: In early spring, before a single leaf appears, July Prince covers itself in showy pink blossoms that are genuinely ornamental. This signals that the pollinating insects are at work setting the crop that will follow in July.

How to Care for Your July Prince Peach Tree

Grow this peach tree variety across the United States in USDA zones 4-8. Full sun is required for optimal fruit production. Moist, well-drained soil that is slightly acidic will treat this fruit tree best. It does require 750-850 chill hours to produce a fruit set.

  • Plant in full sun with at least 6 to 8 hours of direct light daily for the best results in growing and fruiting.
  • Prefers well-drained soil, though sandy loam is ideal, but any site with good drainage works; avoid low spots where water pools after rain.
  • Water consistently during fruit development in early to mid-summer; don’t let the soil get too dry.
  • Annually prune in late winter to maintain an open canopy, improve airflow and light penetration, and keep the tree at a manageable, harvestable height.
  • Fertilize in early spring as buds begin to swell; consistent nutrition supports strong shoot growth and sets up a productive season.

The July Prince Peach tree size is up to 12-15 feet tall and wide at full mature size. It has an exceptionally fast growth rate of up to 2 feet per year. You can keep this fast-growing peach tree pruned down to a more manageable size for easy picking! The best time to prune peaches is in late winter or early spring before flower buds or leaves have formed. The deciduous tree’s branches will be bare and easy to make pruning cuts.

Finally, a ball that made it!
Color: Blue, Color: Blue
I don’t know what is it with this ball, but it’s special. My dogs can absolutely tear up anything and this one seems like it can be chewed up but my dog loves it too much. He carries it all day, nibbles it and loves the squeaky sound of course. Finally found a winner!

Good size ball for my big boy
Color: Purple
My big boy loves this ball. He chews and chews and chews on it and it ain't made a dent in it. It's made a good quality rubber. It's got a squeaker in it. He hasn't managed to get it out which is not normal because normally he can get a squeaky out within 10 minutes. He goes through toys like I don't know what so it's being being a good. Really good ball. We've had it for about 2-3 months now and he hasn't been able to break into it and get squeaky out or even make a dent into it. That would tear up the the rubber

Sturdy ball, holding up well.
Color: Purple
I have a ball obsessed Shih Tzu. This has become his security blanket. He literally takes it everywhere and even sleeps with it next to him. Dexter loves any ball. All shapes and sizes. He will play fetch all day long if you let him. He doesn't know when to quit. It can be 100 degrees out with 80% humidity and he'll fetch all day long. This is a larger ball, I think just over 3 inches. It is entirely too big for a Shih Tzu, but it is perfect for Dexter. He came to us with a ball similar to this that he has since lost. He carries it in his mouth by placing his incisors in the indentations and lets it hang out the side of his mouth. Quite comical actually, but it works for him. We have bought him balls more for his size, but they're too small and he gets them lost under cabinets, furniture or any nook and cranny the ball will fit. And being obsessive, he will bark and carry on because he can't get to the ball until you come and rescue it. Difficult on our old knees. So he ends up getting the smaller balls taken away from him. The other night he was laying and chewing on this ball. It sounded like he was shredding this ball to pieces. I was afraid he would choke or swallow the rubber pieces, so I took it away from him. There wasn't anything wrong with the ball. It looked brand new. No chew or bite marks that I could see. I was impressed. It does have a squeaker, but I can barely get it to squeak and I have strong hands. A larger dog with a stronger bite force could probably easily make it squeak. It claims to have a beef scent to the toy, and maybe that is why he likes the ball so much. But I sniffed it and couldn't smell anything, which is fine by me, it won't have an obnoxious smell to where I don't want it around me.

Dogs love balls
Color: Orange
Most dogs love to play with balls. This is a ball. It squeaks and can handle a lot of strong chewing. Quite durable and a good size for medium and up sized dogs. (Honestly even smaller dogs would have fun with this).
