Fiery Color, Sculptural Shape, Easy-Care Style
Euphorbia tirucalli ‘Red Blaze’, commonly known as the Firestick Cactus or Red Pencil Cactus, is a bold, sculptural succulent prized for its slender, branching stems and fiery red-orange color. Its upright, architectural form makes it a standout choice for sunny windows, modern interiors, and plant collectors who love dramatic texture.
Despite its cactus-like look, this plant is actually a succulent Euphorbia. With enough bright light, the stems can develop intense warm tones ranging from coral and orange to red, giving the plant its signature “firestick” appearance.
Why You’ll Love It
- Striking Color: Bright light encourages vibrant red, orange, and coral tones.
- Sculptural Growth: Pencil-thin stems create a clean, modern silhouette.
- Drought Tolerant: Stores water in its stems and prefers to dry out between waterings.
- Low Maintenance: A great choice for bright spaces and plant lovers who prefer less frequent watering.
Firestick Cactus Care
- Light: Thrives in bright light to direct sun. Stronger light helps bring out the best red-orange coloring.
- Water: Allow soil to dry completely between waterings. Water sparingly, especially in cooler months.
- Soil: Use a well-draining cactus or succulent mix.
- Temperature: Prefers warm indoor conditions and should be protected from cold drafts.
- Growth Habit: Upright, branching, and sculptural over time.
Important Safety Note
Euphorbia tirucalli produces a milky sap that can irritate skin and eyes. Handle with care, wear gloves when pruning, and keep away from pets and children.
Add Euphorbia tirucalli ‘Red Blaze’ to your collection for a bold, drought-tolerant houseplant with unforgettable color and architectural appeal.
