  • Philodendron gloriosum is a tropical plant known for its large, heart-shaped, velvety green leaves with striking white veins. Native to the rainforests of Colombia, this species grows as a creeping terrestrial plant, spreading horizontally along the soil rather than climbing like many other philodendrons.

As the plant matures, its leaves increase in size and display stronger contrast between the veins and the leaf surface. New growth often emerges with a rosy tint that gradually fades into deep green as the leaves expand and firm up. The foliage, soft to the touch and boldly veined, has a rich, artistic quality that sets this plant apart and makes it especially prized among rare plant collectors.

Unlike vining Philodendrons that require support to grow upward, Philodendron gloriosum spreads from a thick, above-ground rhizome that creeps across the surface of the soil. This makes it ideal for shallow, wide containers, allowing room for the rhizome to stretch and new leaves to develop along its path. With proper care, mature leaves can reach 12–18 inches long, becoming dramatic focal points in any indoor space.

As a member of the Araceae family, this plant is related to other popular philodendrons but distinguished by its crawling habit and matte, velvety texture. It is often compared to species like Philodendron Micans or Melanochrysum, but its low, horizontal growth pattern and thick, textured foliage give it a more sculptural, grounded presence. It’s not a climber but a slow-spreading, leaf-forward specimen that adds elegance and calm structure to any plant collection.
  • Prefers bright, indirect light to maintain healthy growth and strong leaf color. Avoid direct sunlight, which can burn the soft, velvety leaves.

Water when the top 2–3 inches of soil feel dry. Keep the soil evenly moist but not soggy, as overwatering can lead to root and rhizome rot.

Thrives in moderate to high humidity, ideally above 50%. If your indoor air is dry, consider a humidifier or placing the plant on a pebble tray.

Use a well-draining, airy mix, such as a blend of potting soil with orchid bark, peat or coco coir, and perlite. This helps support root health and proper moisture retention. Feed once a month during spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength. Skip feeding during the plant’s slower-growing fall and winter months.

Grows best in 65–80°F temperatures. Avoid cold drafts and keep it away from areas that drop below 55°F.

Like many aroids, Philodendron gloriosum is toxic to pets and humans if ingested. Keep out of reach of children and animals.

Fire Resistant Maybe, Not Fireproof
This small passport holder/bag from Ready Now Bags is quite unusual, it claims to be fireproof! We tested it with a lighter flame and the 'fireproof' claim initially seemed to hold up: a few seconds of direct flame on one spot had no effect on the main outside material of the bag or on the zipper material. It did cause the [nylon?] fabric running across the top of the outside pocket to start melting, and presumably the tag would also melt (as another reviewer found). My wife didn't like the bag anyway, so we decided to try a more rigorous test (initially I was hesitant, because I didn't want to ruin the bag). We put a spot in the middle of the back side of the bag in a direct candle flame for 30 seconds. It did not melt or catch fire and was only a bit degraded in appearance after the soot was scrubbed off. The inside of the bag in the area where the flame had been was hot, but not too hot to touch. We repeated the 30 second candle flame test on a corner of the bag. This time the corner of the bag caught fire after about 20 seconds (specifically, the piping material around the edge), and the fabric part of the zipper melted all the way through. I haven't tried lighting other hand bags on fire, so I'm not sure how an average one would compare, but I think 'fireproof' is too much of a claim, it may be fair to say this bag is 'fire resistant'. The material is neat and I would say attractive. Note that the bag is pretty thin [8.9in x 4.8 in x 0.7in], which is perfect for some purposes but you can't cram a lot of stuff into it. I don't know whether the RFID block works, but it doesn't seem to impede a cellphone signal at all when a cellphone is placed inside the bag (tested before fire tests). The construction quality of the bag is just okay, it's a little bit uneven/wrinkled around the edges; this material is probably difficult to work with. No functional problems, though. The pockets and slots for organizing on the inside of the bag are nice. The loop on the back that the hand strap is attached to is pretty thick and seems robust, you could attach a longer strap for shoulder or neck carry if desired. If the bag was only advertised as 'fire resistant' I would give it a higher score, but it is advertised as 'fireproof' which is quite an overclaim.

Quality and security-oriented wallet
Color: Adventure Brown - Forest Brown
This is a neatly constructed wallet. The material of the leather feels satisfying to carry unlike previous wallets. This wallet consists of many card slots, and allows ease of access between them. The wallet can fit checks, cash and is just a nice layout and style to be able to look through it. Because some of our cards support RFID and NFC technology, bad actors can try to steal our credentials. This wallet has a material to mitigate these occurrences, but like anything in security whether it be physical security controls or the wide scope of cybersecurity, do not rely on it and try to be up-to-date with the trend. I am sure we would all want to be one step above in relation to keeping our credentials secure. Still, it is an excellently built wallet and I highly recommend it.

Beautiful Wallet
Color: With NO Logo - Smooth Nappa Black
Well constructed and beautiful wallet. The black Nappa leather I ordered is soft and smooth to the touch and you can tell by the look, feel, and smell that it is high quality. I love that you can order this with both a logo and no logo for a clean look. The design on this is well thought out. I'd definitely recommend this wallet to anyone. It is an amazing value and far superior to any other $30 wallet I've ever seen.

Almost perfect!
Color: With Coin Pocket - Forest Brown
I purchased this wallet primarily for its generous number of conveniently located slots and its coin pocket. If you can't fit everything you want to EDC in this wallet, you need to think about getting a sling bag! Having returned the same model in Grizzily Brown due to a stitching defect and ordered this one in Forest Brown, I can see it is a richer, lighter shade and the finish seems smoother and more refined. Some of my cards were tight in previous wallet slots, but everything fits great in this one. Why the one star off? First, this wallet is about a quarter inch too large in all dimensions, especially thickness. While it doesn't protrude out the top of my back pocket, it is a challenge to close the button on some pants and it is also snug side-to-side, so removal involves some wiggling until pockets stretch and the wallet breaks in. The leather used in its construction is smooth but stiff at first, given that it is about twice as thick as most American or European wallet leather I've owned: think bullhide. The smell is also a little off, definitely natural cowhide but processed with whatever is used to tan leather in India rather than in the United States. Finally, this looks like something that belongs in a pair of jeans or casual pants, NOT pulled out of a suit at a Michelin star restaurant. The stitching, evenness of dye and lines are far from perfect, but what it lacks in looks it more than makes up for in every day function, character, and anticipated durability.
