Tall and slender, the plants grow 36 to 48 inches tall, with each sturdy stem supporting 6 to 8 outward-facing, bowl-shaped, pink and white blooms. The highly fragrant flowers have a spicy scent and long, pollen-covered stamens that support pollinators, including butterflies and hummingbirds. Florist quality, they make excellent cuts for summer bouquets and mixed floral arrangements. When cutting flowers, leave as much stem and foliage in place as possible, leaving at least 2/3 of the stem with leaves to renew the bulb for next year's growth and flowering.
A Lilium oriental species, commonly called oriental lily, Stargazer is a bulbous perennial with an upright habit and rapid growth rate. It is a strong naturalizer that will return each year in optimal conditions. Stargazer is a must-have for a cutting garden, but it's a great option for grouping in flower beds, borders, patio pots, and containers.
Plant Stargazer oriental lily bulbs 6 to 8 inches apart and 6 to 8 inches deep. Site bulbs in a location that receives 6 to 8 hours of sun each day and has freely draining soil. They prefer cool, medium moist soils with a slightly acidic pH and grow best with their heads in the sun but their roots in the shade of low-growing companions. Keep plants mulched well. Feed oriental lilies with Espoma Organic® Bulb-tone® Bulb and Flower Food in spring as growth begins. Remove faded flowers immediately but allow foliage to die back naturally before removing. Stargazer oriental lilies are cold hardy to Zone 3 and deer resistant and rodent resistant.
