Monstera deliciosa ‘Aurea Variegata’, often referred to as the Aurea Monstera, is a rare and collectable variegated form of the iconic Swiss Cheese Plant. Native to the tropical forests of Central America, Monstera deliciosa is celebrated for its bold, fenestrated leaves. The Aurea variety elevates this with spectacular yellow-golden variegation that makes each leaf unique.

The foliage is large, glossy, and heart-shaped, developing characteristic splits and holes (fenestrations) as the plant matures. In the ‘Aurea Variegata’ cultivar, leaves are splashed and streaked with shades of lime, gold, and bright yellow. Some leaves display subtle marbling, while others show dramatic sectoral variegation, with entire sections of the leaf turning golden. The contrast of deep green and sunshine-yellow makes it one of the most striking variegated Monsteras in cultivation.

Mature plants can reach several metres in height with support, producing huge ornamental leaves that create a strong tropical statement in any space.

Monstera deliciosa ‘Aurea Variegata’ – Care Guide

Light

Requires bright, indirect light to maintain strong golden variegation. Too little light will cause the plant to revert to green, while harsh direct sunlight can scorch the pale sections of the leaves.

Watering

Water when the top 3–5 cm of soil feels dry. Keep the soil lightly moist during spring and summer, but ensure good drainage. Reduce watering in autumn and winter when growth slows.

Temperature and Humidity

  • Temperature: Thrives in 18–28°C. Avoid cold draughts and exposure below 15°C.

  • Humidity: Prefers moderate to high humidity (60%+). Misting or a humidifier will help prevent crisping edges on variegated sections.

Soil and Potting

Use a chunky, free-draining aroid mix – peat-free compost enriched with orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir is ideal. Repot every 1–2 years in spring to refresh the mix and provide space for root growth.

Feeding

Feed every 2–3 weeks in spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertiliser. Reduce feeding in autumn and stop in winter.

Pruning and Training

Remove yellowing or damaged leaves to maintain the plant’s appearance. Provide a moss pole or trellis to encourage upright growth and larger leaves.

Growth and Maturity

A moderately fast grower. With support, mature plants produce enormous leaves up to 60–90 cm across, showcasing dramatic golden variegation alongside deep fenestrations.

Common Issues

  • Loss of variegation: Insufficient light.

  • Brown patches on yellow areas: Excess direct sun or low humidity.

  • Yellowing leaves: Overwatering or poor drainage.

  • Pests: May occasionally attract thrips, spider mites, or mealybugs.

Background and Benefits

The Aurea Monstera is one of the rarest variegated forms of Monstera deliciosa, distinguished by its golden tones rather than the cream or mint marbling of other cultivars. Highly prized among collectors, its bold contrast and uniqueness make it a living statement piece. Like other Monsteras, it also helps filter indoor air, improving air quality.

Finally a ball my power chewers cannot destroy
Size: Medium
I have two dogs, an American Bully and an American Pit Bull Terrier, and both of them love to chew. Most balls last a very short time around here before they are shredded or missing big chunks. This one has actually held up. They chase it, tug on it and sit and chew on it, and it is still in one piece with no pieces breaking off. One of my favorite things is being able to put food inside. I add some kibble or small snacks, and they will happily sit and work on it for a long time. It keeps them busy, gives them something safe to chew, and they get a little reward while they play. When they are done, I just rinse it out and it is ready to go again. If you have strong jawed dogs that usually destroy toys, this ball is worth trying. Mine really enjoy it and I feel better knowing they finally have a ball that can keep up with them.

My dog LOVES this ball
Size: Medium, Size: Medium
Does your dog destroy tennis balls in seconds? Yes? Then your dog NEEDS this ball! It's squishy like a tennis ball, fits in ball launchers (even the cheap ones) and bounces when it hits the ground. My dog has been literally playing with this ball all day and not a single mark on it! The only bad thing is that it does not float. Definitely worth the money! Put it in your cart!

Perfect for ball demolishers
Size: Medium
The dogs love the chuck it brand. I don’t know what it’s made of but they go crazy over them. Will not play with another ball. Wonder if it’s “laced” with an addictive scent. Have pits. Very durable. Not able to chew to pieces. Last for about 6 months before there is a small break. I keep a back up because when the ball goes missing the house is in chaos. 😆 🤪

Chuckit medium rebound balls
Size: Medium
My 8 month old German shepherd dog loves these balls. They are easy to throw, they bounce great, they are very chewable! She keeps one in her mouth most of the time. It satisfies her need to chew and she does not chew other things. She drops it in the water and lets the hole fill up and drinks that way. The only problem that has caused is suction in her mouth and difficulty in dislodging it for her. However, she would be lost without it!
