Sansevieria pinguicula is a rare and striking houseplant, prized for its compact shape and thick, fan-shaped leaves. Its sculptural and minimalist appearance makes it a sought-after collector's item, perfect for modern and bright interiors.
Origin: Native to Kenya, where it grows in arid and rocky areas, often on well-drained slopes.
Growth: Slow growth. It forms a dense rosette of fleshy, rigid, pointed leaves arranged in an almost horizontal fan shape. The greyish-green leaves with bluish reflections are thick and slightly curved, giving the plant a very architectural appearance.
Flowers: Flowering is rare indoors. When it occurs, it produces a flower stalk bearing small, greenish-white, slightly fragrant, tubular flowers, typical of the Sansevieria genus.
Light: Prefers bright to very bright light, with tolerance for a few hours of gentle direct sunlight. Good light promotes compact growth and well-formed leaves.
Watering: Water only when the substrate is completely dry. While very drought-tolerant, it is highly susceptible to overwatering, which can cause root rot. Reduce watering frequency when growth slows.
Substrate: Use a very well-draining potting mix for houseplants. Adding perlite or pumice stone ensures excellent root aeration and prevents stagnant moisture.
Toxicity: Slightly toxic if ingested by humans and animals.
