Cintho Dracaena (Dracaena fragrans steudneri 'Cintho')

Cintho Dracaena is a bold tropical houseplant valued for its upright cane form, broad striped foliage, and easygoing indoor performance. Its leaves feature rich green tones with a bright yellow to lime-green center stripe, giving rooms, offices, and interior plantings a clean vertical accent. The multi-stem habit creates tiered foliage at different heights, making it useful where a floor plant needs structure without a wide footprint. With bright indirect light, well-drained soil, and careful watering, Cintho Dracaena brings reliable color and height to indoor spaces with minimal fuss.

Distinctive Features

Cintho Dracaena grows from sturdy upright canes topped with broad, arching leaves that create a palm-like tropical effect indoors. The foliage is its main ornamental feature, with deep green margins and a strong yellow to lime-green stripe running through the center of each leaf. Multi-cane plants create a layered look, adding height and fullness while still keeping a relatively narrow profile. While mature Dracaena fragrans can flower under the right conditions, Cintho Dracaena is grown primarily for its foliage and rarely blooms as an indoor houseplant.

Growing Conditions

  • Sun: Grows best in bright indirect light but can tolerate medium indoor light, while harsh direct sun may scorch the foliage.
  • Soil: Prefers a well-drained indoor potting mix that holds light moisture without staying soggy.
  • Water: Allow the top portion of the soil to dry before watering, then water thoroughly and let excess drain away.
  • USDA Zones: Best grown as a houseplant in most climates and hardy outdoors only in frost-free tropical conditions, generally USDA Zones 10 to 12.
  • Mature Size: Typically reaches about 4 to 8 feet tall indoors and about 2 to 3 feet wide, depending on pot size, light, and pruning.
  • Habit: Forms an upright, cane-like tropical houseplant with tiered clusters of broad arching foliage.

Ideal Uses

  • Focal Point: Use as a vertical indoor focal point in living rooms, offices, lobbies, entry areas, or bright corners where its striped foliage can add height and structure.
  • Floor Plant: Place in a decorative container where its upright canes and layered leaves can fill space without spreading too widely.
  • Office Plant: Use in workspaces where a durable, low-fuss foliage plant can handle typical indoor light and humidity conditions.
  • Interior Accent: Pair with lower houseplants to create a layered indoor plant display with contrasting leaf shapes and heights.
  • Container Planting: Grow in a well-drained pot with room for root development and enough weight to support the plant as it gains height.

Low Maintenance Care

  • Watering: Water when the upper soil has dried and avoid letting the plant sit in standing water, since overwatering can lead to root problems.
  • Light Care: Rotate the pot occasionally so the plant grows evenly toward the light and keeps a balanced shape.
  • Leaf Care: Wipe leaves occasionally with a damp cloth to remove dust and keep the striped foliage looking clean.
  • Humidity: Average indoor humidity is usually acceptable, though the plant benefits from slightly higher humidity in very dry rooms.
  • Fertilizing: Feed lightly during the active growing season with a balanced houseplant fertilizer, following label directions.
  • Pruning: Remove yellow or damaged leaves as needed and cut back canes if height control or branching is desired.

Why Choose Cintho Dracaena?

  • Bold Foliage: Displays broad green leaves with a bright yellow to lime-green center stripe for strong indoor color.
  • Upright Shape: Adds vertical structure without taking up as much width as many other large houseplants.
  • Easy Indoor Care: Handles typical home and office conditions when watered carefully and kept out of harsh direct sun.
  • Layered Look: Multi-cane plants create tiered foliage that gives the plant a fuller, more architectural appearance.
  • Versatile Placement: Works well in living rooms, offices, entries, lobbies, bright corners, and decorative containers.

Cintho Dracaena is an excellent choice for anyone who wants a tall, colorful houseplant with a clean upright habit and manageable care needs. Its striped foliage, cane-like structure, and strong indoor presence make it a dependable plant for adding height, texture, and tropical character to interior spaces.

So Good!
Format: Hardcover
Some parts of this are reminiscent of The Help, but it is a brand new story. Even though it appears to be a LONG book (650 pages), it goes fast and is hard to put down. The story takes place in Mississippi in the 1930's. 24 year old Birdie travels to see her married sister in Oxford for the purpose of getting some financial help for her family. Her sister Frances married into a seemingly wealthy family, which for reasons that soon become clear, has now fallen on hard times. Eleven year old Meg lives in an orphanage and is treated badly by the volunteers that staff it. If her mom isn't going to come back and get her, then she wants to be adopted as soon as possible, but most people want babies, not older children. Charlie turns up at the house where Birdie is staying with her sister's family. She's bright and helpful, but what's her real story? How are they all connected? This story is at times hilarious and at other times heartbreaking. It has its share of villains, but most of the characters are likeable and you want them to succeed. Just HOW they succeed is the heart of the book, and I won't tell you and spoil the surprise. This is well worth reading, though, and I strongly recommend it.

Outstanding book
Format: Kindle
I loved this book so much that I'm sad that I've finished it. The story is fascinating, the characters well developed and the themes were important and heart wrenching. This is definitely one of the best books I ever read. I can't summarize the story without spoilers and I would not want to deny you the opportunity to enjoy the unfolding of this beautiful story. This is a book I will not forget and I look forward to Kathryn Society's next wonderful book. She is a tremendous author. Thank you Kathryn for the gift of this book!

Worth the Wait
Format: Kindle
Kathryn Stockett's The Calamity Club is well worth the wait, just as good or even better than The Help. This historical novel has all the literary ingredients to be added to the classics. This book is both engaging and horrifying since it reveals the cruel beliefs in Mississippi's past and explains the rigid mind-set of contemporary politics and culture. I was incensed by the ignorance and lack of empathy. However, as throughout history, the theme of women helping other women gave the story conflict, suspense, and lots of humor. The characters and plot are so engaging I would like a follow-up story, maybe a part two. I am ready for a movie version, if Meg and Birdie are well cast. The Calamity Club was worth the wait!

Entertaining
Format: Kindle
I read this book on Kindle in about 3 days. Birdie Calhoun, one of the main narrators, has got to be one of the most likable main characters a book could create. She’s practical, God-fearing, driven, smart, and loyal. Meg, the second narrator, is witty and humorous to listen to, especially since you’re seeing things through the eyes of an eleven year old orphan. There are a few big reveals throughout the book, and around the midpoint there is a shift in storyline which will tell you how the book got its name. I saw some reviews say the book is a bit long, which doesn’t bother me. I see how the length may be necessary given the fact that the author had to bounce between two separate story lines and then merge them in the end. My only feedback about the length would be there is a lot of time and detail during the middle of the book (especially Meg’s time with her adoptive family) but less time spent on the ending, leaving things a bit rushed and many characters’ fate ambiguous. I found myself wanting more closure for characters Frances & Mrs. Tartt, as well as the boarders such as Flossy. On a historical level, this book provides context for a dark time in America where society wanted to annex anyone deemed undesirable or peculiar, especially promiscuous women. Society was hyper focused on separating the pious from the “imbeciles” and punished anyone whose lives didn’t fit the perfect Christian mold. This caused characters like Frances and Mrs. Tartt to be obsessed with their reputation, and fear of tainted reputation is a huge factor in decision making amongst the main characters. Birdie, Meg, and Charlie seem to be the main characters willing to take huge risks and sacrifices for those that they love. This book inspired me to do some of my own research and I learned something new about American history.

An incredibly strong and memorable story.
Format: Hardcover, Format: Hardcover
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 glorious stars! Though she is big 656 paged girl, she offers so much heart. Lord how I loved this book. The characters were just so good together. Out of hardships, these women bound together for reasons of their own. Some of those reasons were tangled up with the other and none were wiser. Each, making an impact on another. This story offers hope where there’s tragedy, faith to persevere, lasting friendships, and love. Meg’s story of never giving up hope for her mother’s return, held me completely captive. 💖 Thank you Kathryn Stockett for penning a strong and memorable novel. Well done! I’m so pleased to have picked up this book to read and I hope you will too!
