Ordinary compost does not belong in a pond.
Westland Peat-Free Aquatic Planting & Potting Mix is specially formulated for aquatic planting, providing a firm, loam-based growing medium that anchors roots while helping maintain water clarity.
Unlike garden compost, this heavier mix:
• Contains grit to improve structure and prevent floating
• Releases nutrients slowly within the basket
• Reduces nutrient dispersal into open water
• Helps minimise the conditions that encourage green water
The balanced formulation supports strong root development while maintaining pond stability. Nutrients remain largely within the root zone, supporting steady growth without excessive leaching.
Suitable for water lilies, marginals and deep-water plants, it creates the stable planting conditions aquatic species naturally prefer.
For best results, use with Finofil Aquatic Baskets and Aquatic Plant Fertiliser Tablets for sustained seasonal feeding.
