About the Plant
This black-seeded loofah variety is known for being more cold-tolerant than standard types, producing long, large fruits that make high-quality, durable bath sponges. The vines are vigorous and productive, with fruits that mature into thick, fibrous sponges perfect for home use or handmade products.
How to Grow (Simple Steps)
Start seeds indoors 4–6 weeks before the last frost.
Gently file or soak seeds for 12–24 hours to improve germination.
Transplant outdoors once temperatures remain above 60°F.
Provide strong trellis support for long, heavy fruits.
Allow fruits to fully dry and turn brown on the vine before harvesting for sponges.
Why We Love It
This variety produces long, sturdy loofahs ideal for natural bath products, exfoliating bars, and eco-friendly kitchen scrubbers. The black seeds and cold tolerance make it a great choice for northern gardeners.
