Variegated Pineapple (Ananas comosus var. variegatus) is a short-stemmed pineapple plant indigenous to Brazil. It forms a compact rosette with robust, dark green leaves featuring a creamy stripe along the edges and spiny margins. In the summer, it produces cone-like clusters of vibrant purple and red flowers that merge to create a striking red, edible pineapple. The fruit can reach lengths of up to 12 inches and is adorned with a rosette of short, stiff leaves.
Renowned for both its delectable fruit and attractive ornamental features, pineapples are widely cultivated. Thriving in full sun and well-drained, organically rich soils, pineapples prefer high humidity and generous watering during growth and flowering, transitioning to reduced water and balanced liquid feed during fruiting. Once established, the plants display drought tolerance.
