Astilbe is a perennial plant known for its feathery plumes of flowers and attractive foliage. It is a great ground cover for moist, shaded areas, tolerant to heat and temporary drought.

The foliage of Astilbe is typically fern-like and comes in various shades of green, ranging from light green to dark green, sometimes tinged with bronze or reddish hues. The real showstopper, however, is the flowers. Astilbe blooms in summer, producing tall, airy plumes in colors like white, pink, red, or purple, adding vibrant pops of color to shady areas where few other plants thrive.

False goat's beard, also known as Astilbe prefers moist soil, but the soil must drain well. Amend soil, especially clay types, with peat moss, perlite, and coarse sand to improve drainage. Dry soil can be fatal to your plants. However, Astilbe does tolerate dryness better than others.

Astilbe love light to moderate shade, they will burn in full sun. The flowers are known to attract butterflies and, in their native range, hummingbirds.

Create beautiful garden scenes with Astilbe and combine them with your favorite flowers in partial shade where other flowers won’t thrive.

HOW TO GROW PUMILA ASTILBE FROM SEED
  • Sow seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before the average last frost in your area.
  •  Use a soft, loose soil mix.
  • Sprinkle seeds on the top of the soil and press them lightly.
  • Keep the soil moist, but not wet. Make sure that the soil drains well.
  • The most effective way to prevent seed from washing away is to use a spray watering bottle.
  • A little fertilizer that has a high concentration of nitrogen it will help the germination.
  • Transplant seedlings outdoors when reach about 2 inches in height and the soil is warm.

ASTILBE CARE

- Water Astilbe regularly, check them to make sure they are moist.
Astilbes spread quickly and form broad clumps. Divide the overgrown clumps every 3 to 4 years in the spring. At your choice, replant the divisions immediately or put them in pots to be planted out in the early summer when they are re-established.
- Removing the flower heads will not promote flowering.
- After blooming has finished for the season, clip off any spent flower stems and astilbes will continue to provide attractive foliage until fall.
- Feel free to trim yellow leaves and fresh growth will come next spring.

Great product
Color: grass-green
This is my dogs' new favorite chew toy. They chew them all the time and have held up way better than most other chew toys.

Nope, not for Murphy the alligator hunter! 🐊🙄
Color: grass-green, Color: grass-green
Murphy, our 75 pound lab, loves to chew. We can’t give him anything soft or even anything remotely made for casual play as he chews them to pieces- literally. So when I saw this cute little alligator, with fairly good reviews, I bought it with high expectations. Nope. It didn’t have a chance- It’s in the garbage. ☹️ First I have to comment on the eyes. I don’t know what they are made of, but the “whites” of the eyes pealed off like paint within the first few minutes Murphy had it. He wasn’t even chewing at the eyes; they just pealed off. I can’t imagine that is good for dogs to ingest, but ok, I threw the white pieces away, and gave it back to him. I do have to say that he loved chewing on it- even without adding any kind of treat to it. So we watched him chew at it for about 30-40 minutes without it being dissected into a million different parts. I was impressed.... Until I took it away from him to be played with later.... during this time he was able to tear parts of the mouth (see pictures), and while all pieces are still in tact, I cannot imagine another 30 minutes of him having this in one piece. So, while I’m very aware that Murphy has limited toys to chew on, I will continue my search for indestructible toys for his chewing pleasure.

Cute toy maybe not for aggressive chewers
Color: grass-green
I bought this because I have an 3 1/2 yr old golden doodle. She tears every toy apart within half hour of having it. The only toys she hasn’t is Kong toys. This is a cute toy. She was shredding pieces off the rubber with half hour of chewing it:( I thought it was very similar to the material of Kong toys? She loves chewing it and playing with it but I probably would not buy it for really aggressive large dogs who tear up toys.

My lab loved it too much, too fast…
Color: blue, Color: blue
It arrived an hour ago and my lab has it in pieces within minutes. It kept him busy for a bit though! I’ll give it to him again but I’ll have to sit with him, for sure. No squeak? I guess he just didn’t get to that part of the toy. It felt sturdy but ultimately didn’t pass the test.
