Bright Pink Pom-Pom Flowers With Light Fragrance Line This Tree in Early Spring

Kwanzan Cherry Tree Delivers Show-Stopping Flowers and Seasonal Beauty Year-Round

The Japanese Kwanzan Cherry Tree bursts with vivid double-pink blooms each spring. With a vase-shaped canopy, striking fall foliage, and fast growth, it's the perfect ornamental shade tree for landscapes large and small.

With fully double flowers, the Kwanzan Flowering Cherry Tree lights up the landscape and puts out loads of beautiful blooms for all to enjoy. In the early spring months, clusters of pink flowers will explode all over this tree’s branches. The pink blooms have 2 layers of petals that give them a showy 3D appearance and last for weeks at a time.

The Prunus serrulata Kwanzan Cherry Blossom tree is known for being interesting through all 4 seasons of the tree. The flowering tree has dark green leaves through the spring and summer growing seasons. As soon as temperatures start to drop in your area you will notice the Kwanzan cherry tree leaves turn to a flaming fall color. The green leaves turn to shades of a bronze color with red overtones to signal the start of fall and winter.

Plant this tree where the deep pink double blossoms can be enjoyed. It is an excellent choice as a street tree in your landscape, planted in groups of 3-4, or planted near flower beds where the shade can be relished. You can see these beautiful trees shown off every year at the annual cherry blossom festival in Washington, DC.

KWANZAN CHERRY TREE CARE

The Kwanzan Cherry Tree Zones are perfect for gardeners who live in the United States plant hardiness growing zones 5-9. This flowering cherry tree is extremely cold hardy and can survive temperatures down to -10 F. Full sun is best for the blooms to show off during the flowering period. Partial shade planting sites are tolerated but flower production may be limited.

The Kwanzan Cherry tree size can get up to 30-40 feet tall and wide at maturity making it a very large tree. This also gives it wonderful shade tree qualities so anyone can enjoy a nice afternoon nap basking in the Kwanzan Japanese Ornamental Cherry’s canopy of shade. The Kwanzan Cherry tree growth rate is up to 1-2 feet per year once established.

You may need to perform Kwanzan cherry tree pruning to help shape the tree to your desired look. It will grow in an upright, vase shape naturally but pruning the branches will actually help to produce even more flowers during the active growth period. In late spring after the specimen tree has finished flowering, prune back any dead or diseased branches. Pruning later than this can cause a loss of flowers for the next season.

Planting Kwanzan Cherry Trees

As soon as the tree arrives you should remove it from the shipping box and water it thoroughly. When you are ready to plant, dig a hole at least twice as large as the root ball. Place the roughened-up root ball into the planting hole and backfill with native or amended soil like our Acidic Potting Soil for best results. Compact the soil to ensure there are no air bubbles in the hole. Water the tree thoroughly for the first year until a strong root system is established. Once established, the tree is drought tolerant. A thick 2 inch layer of mulch around the root zone/base of the tree will help to retain moisture during the active growing season. You can apply Kwanzan cherry tree fertilizer annually to help with flower production and to set a good growth habit.

Do Kwanzan Cherry Trees Produce Fruit?

The Japanese Flowering Cherry Kwanzan tree is sterile and produces little to no fruit. Not to fret, the beautiful spring blooms make up for this fact.

Genuinely bummed that these great balls can’t stand up against my Chloè.
Size: Medium
I love all the Chuckit brand of balls. I found that the Strabo and glow balls in the Chuckit line are the softest, and as such, don't last as long as the rest of Chuckit line of balls. Having said that, they do last longer than than every other brand I've tried (and I do believe I’ve tried every brand available on the market today.) The strato balls do bounce higher than any of the other balls in the Chuckit line. They really are a good value.

Great dog balls at a great price
Size: Medium
The balls are a favorite for my dog. I could have done without the hole through the middle because I don't do treats in balls anyway. My dog loves balls for their own merit. I needed replacement balls for my Nerf Dog Ball launcher. It seems the originals have disappeared from the market. I took a chance because the price is right and this Chuck-it ball works very well so we're liking this ball a lot. So far my Dachsund, who can destroy a tennis ball (the kind they are selling as Nerf Dog replacements) in 3 minutes has not done any damage to this one so that's a win. I recommend this as a much better ball than the fuzzy tennis balls. I like the colors too since many dog toys are green (which gets lost in the lawn, etc.) or red (even though dogs have red/green color blindness. Blue and orange are good and pretty easy to find. I liked these well enough that this set was my second purchase so I will have spares in case the others are lost.

My Baby loves his new baby!
Size: Medium, Size: Medium
Finally! A ball my 107 lb. pitty/pointer mix can’t destroy. He has torn up every single “indestructible” toy in a day or so until now. He peels fabric and fur off non-rubber toys. He is a 4-legged shredder. I’ve added pictures of him for a size reference of my dog versus this product. I know I had wanted that when shopping for this item. This ball is now his beloved “baby.” He goes absolutely insane looking for it, chewing it, chasing it, and even sleeping with it. He won’t rest unless he knows exactly where it is. It is his only toy, and he is good with that. After getting this home, I tried giving him other choices, but he won’t touch them. I was worried that he would rip it apart by putting his teeth in the holes, but so far, not a scratch. It is soft enough to collapse just enough to keep it from cracking when his jaws crush it but not so soft that he can rip it to sheds. The holes are large enough to prevent a suction or vacuum effect on his tongue or mouth. For his size jaws, it is a perfect fit. Other dogs might have problems with suction or be able to get their teeth in those holes and rip it apart. Who knows? The older version of the Chuckit squeaky ball was his favorite for the year and a half he had it, but the way they make them now, he peels off the orange triangle in hours flat, the squeaker falls out (choking hazard), and then he rips it apart. I’m going to stock up on these. I can’t imagine how crazy he will be if they ever stop production or change the materials.

Great durable ball
One of my dog’s favorite toy. We have had this ball for almost a year and it is still intact. My Doberman loves it and has not been able to destroy it. The size is comparable to s tenis ball. It has a little weight to it witch makes it easy to trow further.

Best toy I’ve ever gotten for my dog
The toy allows you to interact with your dog in a way that I didn’t realize was so important until I adopted a dog who was ball obsessed and a bit disconnected. We have bonded so much over this toy and it has held up so much better than 95% of the toys I’ve gotten, which have all been labeled as high-quality or durable. It is perfect for playing fetch and for tugging, as well as training. The only thing worth noting is that the rope is thin enough that it can be uncomfortable to tug with a large or strong dog. I usually wrap a leash around my hip and hook it to the rope when we are doing intense tugging (because my 75 pound dog would win otherwise). If you do go for a tug toy that has a more comfortable handle, it will not bounce and be easy for a dog to run around with in the same way. This rope makes the weight heavily in favor of the ball, so it acts more like a ball and the dog is more inclined to grab the ball. I think this toy finds right balance of ball to rope.
