The Euphorbia flanaganii Monstrose Cristata 'Caudex Cristation' is a unique and rare succulent that stands out due to its intricate crested form. This mutation of the more common Euphorbia  flanaganii, opens in a new tab showcases a highly textured and undulating crest growing atop a thickened caudex (the swollen stem base). It is prized by collectors for its alien-like and sculptural appearance, making it a centerpiece in any succulent collection.

It is also known as “Crested Medusa’s Head” or “Crested Euphorbia flanaganii,” due to its contorted, coral-like structure. The term “Cristata” in its name highlights the fan-like crests, which are formed due to genetic mutations that cause abnormal growth.

This Euphorbia flanaganii variety is distinguished by its crested radial growth.

The plant in the image reveals densely packed, intricate ridges of green stems forming a coral-like structure, radiating from a broad caudex base. The combination of spiny ridges and undulating patterns makes it visually fascinating.

The texture of the caudex shows the characteristic geometric pattern common in crested succulents, adding to its sculptural appeal.

The color of the stems is vibrant green, contrasting beautifully with the rocky substrate, which emphasizes its unique form.

It can grow up to 6-12 inches in height, with a spread that can extend similarly in width due to the crest’s growth. The caudex remains compact, but the crests may spread outward, forming a fan-like structure. The plant in the image shows a well-formed crest that expands outward horizontally more than vertically, which is common in monstrose forms.

The Monstrose Cristata has a radial pattern resembling a Medusa's head, opens in a new tab, while the Euphorbia  flanaganii  cristata Green Coral, opens in a new tab variety features a fan-shaped, crested growth with convoluted ridges resembling waves or crests.

The flowers of Euphorbia flanaganii Cristata are quite small and not very showy. They typically appear as small yellow or greenish cyathia, the characteristic floral structure of the Euphorbia genus. These flowers emerge from the ridges of the crest, adding a delicate contrast to the otherwise rigid appearance of the plant. While not significant in terms of appearance, they are a sign of the plant's health and maturity. Though the flowers are small, they may attract small pollinators such as insects.

When it comes to care, this plant thrives in bright, indirect light or full sun. Indoors, it should be placed near a sunny window, while outdoors, it can handle full sun as long as it’s not scorching hot. In very intense light, the crest may take on more vibrant tones. Well-drained soil is essential for this plant, as it is susceptible to root rot if kept in overly moist conditions.

The Euphorbia flanaganii Cristata is drought-tolerant and should be watered sparingly. Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings, especially in winter when the plant’s growth slows.

The ideal indoor temperature for your crested Euphorbia is between 60-85°F. This plant can be grown outdoors in USDA zones 9-11. In colder areas, it must be brought indoors or grown in containers that can be moved as temperatures drop. Fertilize sparingly with a balanced, diluted succulent NPK fertilizer during the growing season in the spring.

Best Tennis Balls Ever
Color: Non-Squeaky - Pack of 12, Size: Medium
Admittedly, I haven't had these for very long, received on Jan 7 and today is Jan 19., 2021, only 12 days. But, we have a terrier mix who hasn't found a tennis ball she couldn't destroy given an hour or two. That is until now. Twelve Days later? She hasn't managed to destroy it at all. We have a puzzle cub that came with a ball inside it. It only took her a couple hours for the ball to rupture at the seam and another 10 minutes to completely destroy it beyond recognition. We put one of these balls in there and here we are over a week later. Not only has she not destroyed the ball but she hasn't been able to get this one out. She looks so silly trying to carry the ball inside the cube. It's hilarious. Anyway, I digress. I would totally recommend this toy for an yone who has a dog that lives to play fetch bit keeps destroying the balls. By the way, Update: Jan 31, 2021 and still going strong. No signs of damage.

Perfect tennis ball size.
Color: Non-Squeaky - Pack of 12, Size: Medium
Like most doggy balls they dont last as long as real tennis ball, but a real tennis ball can wear down her teeth. Great colors, tho in a few days they are yard colored cuz of the slobber and nature on it. Love the handy mesh bag for keeping put away until we need to get out a new one. My dog loves the no squeaky. To her squeaky is inside toy and too distracting for outdoor play. She really enjoys fetching this ball.

My Dog Dreams Of Squeaky Balls 🐶
Color: Squeaky - Pack of 12, Size: Medium
My dog really loved these balls when I got them. It's a great variety of colors, the fabric is well-attached, and I LOVE that the squeaker is hidden under the fabric, reducing risk that it falls out and gets eaten by one of the dogs. The net carrying bag is a nice touch as well. Unfortunately, these balls do not hold up to much play. I have a medium-sized dog and he likes to mouth the ball when he catches it to squeak it. The squeaker broke on every single one of these within the first play session. Thankfully it stays contained in the sealed ball, but still, it would be nice if it lasted a *little* bit longer. Beyond the squeaker issue, my dog wears these out within a day or two of play. Keep in mind that he LOVES playing fetch and we will spend a good hour playing per night. Usually the fabric starts to detach and the ball will start breaking at the seam (the ball is two halves glued or sealed together). That may be the fault of the dog, though, since he does squeak these an awful lot while we play. Buying a stronger ball may not be an option because he enjoys the ones that are easier to squeak like these are! Overall I'm fairly happy, I just wish they lasted a little longer or cost a little less. 🐶
