Botanical Notes
Aglaonema ‘20 Karat’ is a gem in the world of Chinese Evergreens, prized for its golden-pink leaves. Each leaf unfurls in a luminous blend of coral, rose gold, and chartreuse-green, creating a warm, glowing effect that instantly brightens any space. This cultivar is part of the newer wave of Thai-bred aglaonemas celebrated for their rich coloration and easy temperament.
Despite its opulent look, ‘20 Karat’ is surprisingly undemanding—thriving in household conditions where many colorful tropicals might fade.
Light: Bright gentle light brings out its best variegation. Avoid prolonged direct sun to protect its warm tones.
Temperature: Prefers comfortable indoor temperatures (65–85°F). Keep away from cold drafts and sudden chills.
Humidity: Enjoys moderate to high humidity (50–70%) but easily tolerates average indoor levels.
Water: Allow the top inch or two of soil to dry before watering again. Avoid waterlogged soil.
Potting mix: Use a chunky, well-draining mix rich in organic matter—something that holds moisture without staying soggy.
Fertilizer: Feed monthly in spring and summer with a diluted, balanced houseplant fertilizer.
How to grow Aglaonema ‘20 Karat’ indoors:
‘20 Karat’ thrives indoors where it receives bright gentle light and consistent warmth. Water moderately when the topsoil feels dry, and wipe leaves occasionally to keep their sheen. Distilled or filtered water is ideal, though high-quality municipal water—such as San Francisco’s Hetch Hetchy supply—is generally safe.
How to grow Aglaonema ‘20 Karat’ outdoors in the Bay Area:
Outdoors, this plant prefers sheltered, bright gentle light—such as a shaded porch or dappled patio. Protect it from wind, harsh afternoon sun, and any dip below 55°F. Bring indoors during colder months to keep growth steady and color vibrant.
Pet safe: No (keep out of reach of pets and small children)
Difficulty: Easy—perfect for collectors seeking a richly colored yet low-maintenance statement plant
