Welcome to the world of the king of air plants - Tillandsia xerographica, a stunning perennial, evergreen epiphyte that's bound to leave you in awe period. It reigns supreme over all other Tillandsias! Its name is derived from the Greek words "Xero" and "graphica”; which both indicate "dry writing" or "dry painting." The "king or Queen" of air plants is another name for the Xerographica air plant.

These slow-growing Xerographica air plants are native to Southern Mexico, El Salvador, and Guatemala, where you can find them hanging out in the topmost branches of subtropical forests. They cling to the trees and grow completely in the air, high in the forest canopy. Xeros stand out from other air plants in terms of aesthetic appeal.

As they grow, their mossy green (silvery-gray leaves) flocked lovely thick leaves wrap and spiral around one another and are also covered in trichomes, which are small scales that help the xerographica air plant absorb moisture from the air. This produces a beautiful, nearly spherical air plant that will provide you with stunning living décor that is simple to maintain because of its sluggish growth habits.

With its quite large growth of up to 3 feet in diameter with the leaves curving inward to form a tight rosette shape, as compared to other air plants, and low maintenance needs, this perennial evergreen large air plant is sure to impress and make it perfect for even the busiest gardener.

Mature and large Tillandsia Xerographica blooms between spring and summer, and it takes years to flower. A single spiky inflorescence (floral bracts) bears bisexual red to purple Tillandsia Xerographica blooms. With a magnificent spike of long-lasting purple to crimson inflorescences, the tubular flowers, and stem can reach a height of one to three feet. Only under ideal conditions do plants bloom once during their lifespan.

The typical Tillandsia Xerographica lifespan is about twenty years. Tillandsia Xerographica pups formed after the death of the flower at the base is the ideal way oftheir propagation from a mother plant. The Tillandsia Xerographica mini and adult plants are stunners in landscaping, balconies, and gardens. You can plant air plants in mounted displays and holders like terrariums and aeriums!

Belonging to the esteemed Bromeliaceae family of plants (the beloved bromeliad family), Tillandsia xerographica exudes an irresistible charm fit for royalty in your stunning living decor! You can get this king of air plants for sale online at Planet Desert. In this product description, we'll take you through everything you need to know about caring for this xerographic air plant - from sun exposure to hardiness zones. So, let's dive in!

Watering Needs

When it comes to watering this king of the air plants Tillandsia xerographica, it's important to strike a balance. These air plants prefer to be underwatered rather than overwatered. A good rule of thumb is to mist, soak or rinse them once or twice a week, depending on the humidity of your environment. This stunning air plant gets its moisture from the morning dew instead of traditional roots.

To water the Tillandsia xerographica, you can either mist it with water using a spray bottle or give it a thorough soak. When misting, make sure to evenly spray the leaves, allowing the water to gently coat them. If you choose to soak your air plant, you can submerge it in a deep bowl or basin of water for about 5 minutes, then let it drain by shaking excess water and dry completely before placing it back on its display. A few good shakes will drain the excess water and will help to protect it from rotting.

Additionally, rinsing is indeed a great method for watering Tillandsia xerographica air plants. Giving them a gentle rinse under running water is an effective way to hydrate them. Just make sure to thoroughly wet the leaves, allowing the water to reach all parts of the plant. After rinsing with lukewarm water, hold your healthy plant upside down and let the excess water drain off and allow the plant to dry completely before placing it back in its display. This method helps mimic the natural rainfall that these plants would receive in their native habitats.

Remember, it's important to avoid letting water sit in the center of the plant, as this can lead to rot. After watering, make sure to shake off any excess water and allow the plant to dry within a few hours. Providing proper air circulation is key to preventing any moisture buildup.

Light Requirements

When it comes to light requirements, xerographica air plants are sun-loving epiphytes that prefer bright, indirect light for at least 4-6 hours daily. These plants thrive in a spot where they can receive ample amounts of filtered sunlight throughout the day. It's best to avoid placing them in direct sunlight for prolonged periods, as it can potentially scorch their delicate leaves.

To provide the ideal lighting conditions, you can place your Tillandsia xerographica near a west-facing window with sheer curtains or window space in a location where it can receive bright light. This will help mimic the natural conditions these air plants would experience in their native habitats.

Remember to observe your air plant closely and make adjustments to its placement if you notice any signs of stress, such as leaf discoloration or wilting of the green leaves. Finding the right balance of light is essential for the health and well-being of your Tillandsia xerographica air plant.

Optimal Soil & Fertilizer Needs

When it comes to soil, Tillandsia xerographica air plants don't require soil like other plants. They are epiphytic plants, which means they naturally grow on other surfaces and absorb nutrients and moisture from the air. Instead of soil, you can mount or place your Tillandsia xerographica on a piece of driftwood, bark, or other decorative surfaces.

As for fertilizer, Tillandsia xerographica air plants have minimal nutritional needs. They can absorb nutrients directly from the air and rainfall. However, if you want to give them a little boost, you can use a specialized air plant bromeliad fertilizer or natural fertilizer with an equal mix of NPK. Apply the fertilizer sparingly, about once a year during the growing season.

Remember, air plants are adapted to survive in nutrient-poor environments, so it's crucial not to over-fertilize them. Providing them with the right mounting surface and occasional light feeding will help keep your Tillandsia xerographica air plant healthy and thriving. They also are among theeasiest air plantsto grow in the home.

Hardiness Zone & More

Tillandsia xerographica air plants are native to tropical regions and are typically found in USDA hardiness zones 10-11, which means they thrive in warm climates with minimum temperatures above 30°F.

In terms of temperature, for Tillandsia xerographica air plants, the ideal temperature range is between 60°F and 80°F. They can tolerate slightly higher temperatures, but it's important to avoid exposing them to extreme heat or cooler temperatures.

When it comes to humidity, these air plants prefer moderate to high humidity levels. They are adapted to tropical environments where humidity is naturally higher. To provide the optimal humidity for your Tillandsia xerographica, you can mist them with water a few times a week or place them in a humid location, such as a bathroom or near a humidifier.

By providing the appropriate hardiness zone, temperature range, and humidity levels, you can create a favorable environment for your Tillandsia xerographica air plants to thrive and grow beautifully.

All-around good chair, suitable for me at 6'6", comfortable and no issues
Pros: The assembly is straightforward and doesn't require much strength; I would expect my mother to have no issue putting this chair together. If you're elderly or disabled, a relative or helper should have an easy and quick time of putting it together, and there is very little chance of making a mistake during assembly. Sturdy at and slightly above the recommended weight limit. I peaked around 256 or 258lbs while using this chair, and it didn't show any signs of complaint then, and it hasn't shown signs of wear since. Really comfortable. I'm an eight-hours-a-day user, almost without exception, and I have no complaints. The leather holds up very well. I don't expect this to be true forever, but after approximately 1800 hours of use, there is no tear or warning sign. It leans back super stably. That's the most important aspect for me. It's tall enough to support my 6'6" frame. My back rests comfortably, so the odds are yours will fit, too. For the scary few who tower over me, and so you can search it easily, here's a height guide: 6'3" 6'4" 6'5" - The chair is good for your heights 6'7" - You should also be well served, unless your height is mostly in your torso. 6'8" - You're at the cusp. I think you will be comfortable in this chair, and alternatives that are built for our (mostly your) height cost so much more. I'd give it a try. I wish you luck. 6'9" 6'10" 6'11" - This is written for 6'9. For 6'10, 6'11, scale the significance of the caution. I think this chair will prove uncomfortable for you or encourage bad posture. I'd encourage you to look elsewhere. Cons: This is well covered in other reviews: the caps that cover up the screws on the side of the arms are poorly designed. One falls off every day or two. It's a minor inconvenience, but it's optional. You can toss the caps in the trash. The screws are not exposed. They sit deep within the plastic of the arm. Personally, I just push the covers back on when I notice they fell. The armrests could be better for me, I think. I'm not sure exactly what my complaint is. I think they are a little too narrow for my liking, but I'm 6'6" with broad shoulders and long arms and unusual joints. The spacing seems fine for a typical user. Notes: I only sit leaning the chair back or sitting up straight at the edge of my seat. Some aspects of this review may not translate perfectly to locked-in-place, sitting back, upright usage.

Awesome!
Update: March 2022 - Funny reading my previous review now. All the cons I mentioned before, I literally don’t even notice at all. In fact, I like the chair I got so much I just got another in white. My boyfriend is using the old one and I needed one for my home office. And sadly, my cats did scratch up the black chair a little (the cats live outside now) but the chair has otherwise stood up to use perfectly. Other than the scratches, is basically like new. I do wish I knew of a good repair kit cause I would like to fix up the scratches. The chair is just extremely comfortable and supportive which I need even more these days for my home business. A very good purchase!! I just received my chair 2 days after ordering it. It took me about 20 minutes to put it together which was very easy. I am sitting in it now typing this review. Pros: -Very attractive. I ordered the black color and it appears just as in the pictures. -Slides smoothly over my linoleum floors. -Seat is soft and comfortable, hopefully it will stay that way over time, but too soon to tell. -Very easy to assemble. -The seat is good size for the average American and seems comparable in width to the chairs I use at work. Cons: -The chair does not lower as much as I wanted. I like my legs at a 90 degree angle when sitting. It is close with my shoes on, but about 2 inches to high. If I had known this, I very likely would not have ordered this chair as its one of my most important features for sitting comfortably. I am 5'6”. I hope that with a little wear the cushion will compress a bit, and if not I may get a small foot stool to solve the problem. -As others have described, this chair pretty much doesn't recline in any appreciable way even at the loosest setting. Basically to stay reclined you have to keep your legs pushing back the whole time which eliminates the point of reclining. I have read from others that over time, this loosens up. This feature is not very important to me, but may be to others. -The seat depth is about 2 inches shorter than I would like. Overall, I think it is a quality chair for the price assuming the above negatives aren't deal breakers for you. I will be keeping this chair since I do not spend a lot of time at my desk and the overall quality outweighs the few negatives for me.

Updated after less then 3 months of owning!
I have only had the chair a few hours now so this review is of first impression and details. I usually wait to do reviews but choose to on this one. Things I noticed that maybe important to others as information: If you are a tall person you may want to measure your height and etc. I am 5' 6" Tall 175lbs. and this chair is perfect size for me. it does have some room 20" max width from arm rest to arm rest. seat is 19" deep from back to front, Back Height from seat is 26" to top (Will be a little more height when sat on) but this being said the top of my head is just perfectly at the top of the head rest height. Putting it together is a breeze and anyone could put this together, Everything's Labeled to fit the instructions, packaged well. Took me about 10 minutes. Pros: Very Comfortable, Perfect size for me, Looks Great, Easy to put together if you follow the easy directions. No tools needed (Tool is included), Arm rests Height Perfect, Cons: The Back is only held together by the arm rests, This I find very odd but possibly normal to all chairs. If you rock the chair back and forth you can feel the back flexing (This I believe to be why others have claimed the chair squeaks and makes noise while tilting back). I am going to make a bracket that will attach the back to the bottom of the Seat to keep it secure and sturdy for the long haul. P.S update on the chair after less then 3 months of owning, although the chair is still comfortable but with a major Con. with normal daily use the fake leather on the arm rests has started to crack and peal. I will not be buying this chair again nor recommend to anyone.

I really wanted to like this chair,
it looks good, it is a nice size, and it starts out pretty comfortable. The vinyl seems pretty durable and I've not had the troubles others have noted with seams tearing or starting out faulty, mine have been near perfect. Assembly is easy, just 12 screws and you simply put them all in finger tight, then toque them down a bit at a time over about 3 passes to get them evenly tight while letting everything balance out as it goes. Much like changing a car tire. If you install one screw and tighten with all your might then move on to the next you'll have trouble with anything you try to assemble, including this chair. Assembly is rarely a problem for me, but the issue here is the padding. I weigh less than the weight limit but I'm tall and thin and my muscular bicyclist's butt is apparently too much for this chair's cushions. At 8 months, I gave up on blankets and pillows and Amazon politely replaced my first chair with zero fuss. Two months later I got a job telecommuting and the 2nd chair has gone totally flat in only another month. I really wanted to like this chair, but the padding just doesn't last. Update: I've been using an additional pad in the seat and though I'm not fond of the look, the price is right since I already paid for the chair. A couple days ago I leaned back and hear a "pop". The back is all floppy and so I take it apart looking for the problem. I tracked the problem to a metal bracket inside the upholstery. I had to cut the vinyl to reach the problem but found the bracket is a large well engineered solid steel plate with plenty of surface area to handle the stresses and the wood is top quality plywood with no voids. Amazon did an awesome job having this chair re-engineered and specified good materials, but their assemblers didn't bother to tighten the screws. No amount of engineering can fix lousy assembly work. Amazon is clearly trying here but they're being thwarted by their supply chain left and right. To be fair, the two chairs they have sent me collectively did last enough for the price I paid so I won't be asking for another replacement.
