Gardeners, are you looking for a truly unique hanging plant for your Crassula plant collection? Look no further than the Crassula perforata, also known as the String of buttons or necklace vine! It gets its common name from its distinctive button-like leaves and trailing growth habit.

The string of buttons is a succulent with square or triangle-shaped fleshy leaves that create a spiral shape around the plant's stem long enough to give it a stacked appearance resembling a string of buttons or beads. The gray-green leaves can take on a pink hue when exposed to sufficient light. Its unique appearance and fast-growing habit make it a real eye-catcher in any collection.

The crassula perforata is a compact plant that can grow up to 18 inches tall and 3 feet wide. Its fleshy stems are upright at first and then become pendants over time, making them ideal for hanging baskets or cascading over the edges of shelves or containers.

In late spring to early summer, the Crassula perforata string of buttons produces small, star-shaped pale pink, white, or pale-yellow flowers. These delicate blooms add a touch of charm to the already stunning Crassula plants.

To propagate Crassula perforata can be easily achieved by leaf cuttings or stem cuttings. Remember, the Crassula perforata is a species of succulent plant, while the Crassula perforata variegata - Variegated string of buttons is a variety of the stacked Crassula perforata species with variegated leaves. According to ASPCA, this string of buttons is safe for both humans and pets.

 Watering Requirements

To water your Crassula perforata, simply give it a good drink when the top inch of soil feels dry to the touch. Be sure to water thoroughly, allowing the water to soak through the soil and drain out of the bottom of the container. After watering, wait until the soil is completely dry before watering again.

This lovely string of buttons prefers a watering routine that allows the soil to dry out between waterings. It's important to avoid overwatering, as this can lead to root rot and other issues. During the summer months or when this Crassula perforata is in a dormant phase, you can reduce the frequency of watering. This succulent plant is quite drought-tolerant, so it's better to underwater than to overwater.

Remember, each Crassula plant's watering needs may vary depending on factors like humidity, temperature, and the size of the pot.  Always keep an eye on the soil's moisture level and make necessary adjustments to your watering schedule.

Light Requirements

The Crassula perforata thrives in bright full sunlight to light shade for at least 4-6 hours to maintain its compact foliage. If growing indoors, the string of buttons prefers a spot near a window where it can receive plenty of bright light throughout the day. Avoid placing it in direct sunlight, as this can scorch the leaves.

If you notice that your Crassula perforata is stretching or leaning toward the light, it may be an indication that it needs more light. On the other hand, if the leaves start to turn yellow or brown, it could be a sign of too much direct sunlight.

Finding the right balance of light for your Crassula perforata is key to its overall health and growth. So, keep an eye on its response to the light and adjust its placement accordingly.

 Optimal Soil & Fertilizer Needs

Crassula perforata thrives in well-draining soil with a pH of almost 5.6 - 6.5. A good choice is a succulent soil mix, which provides the right balance of moisture retention and drainage. Moisture can be a real killer, leading to root and stem rot in no time flat. But fear not my fellow green thumbs!

Planet Desert has got your back with our specialized succulent potting mix that includes 5 natural substrates with organic mycorrhizae perfect for promoting healthy roots and happy Crassula plants. You can also create your own mix by combining regular potting soil with perlite or coarse sand to improve drainage.

When it comes to fertilizing, Crassula perforata doesn't require frequent feeding. During the active growing season in spring, you can use a balanced natural fertilizer NPK. Apply the fertilizer once a year and avoid overfertilization as it can cause the death of the whole string of buttons succulent. However, it's important to avoid over-fertilizing, as this can lead to excessive growth and weak stems.

Hardiness Zones & More

The crassula perforata string of buttons is generally hardy in USDA hardiness zones 9-11. The string of buttons, on the other hand, cannot handle frost, cold, or freezing temperatures, so make sure it doesn't get below 45 degrees Fahrenheit in its environment. It prefers temperatures between 60-75°F during the day and slightly cooler temperatures at night.

In terms of humidity, Crassula perforata is adaptable and can tolerate a range of humidity levels. These Crassula succulents can thrive in average indoor humidity, but it's important to avoid excessively dry air, especially during the winter months when indoor heating can cause low humidity. If the air in your home is particularly dry, you can increase humidity by using a humidifier or placing a tray of water near the plant to provide some moisture.

Be sure to add Crassula perforata - a string of buttons - to your collection today and elevate the beauty of your home or garden, with this stunning-looking plant.

Best dog ball in the world!
Size: Large, Pattern Name: Pack of 1, Size: Large, Pattern Name: Pack of 1
My dog is singularly obsessed with playing ball. He would drop a steak to chase a ball. (He'd return to the steak, but not without the retrieved ball. He's not an idiot.) He makes dangerous leaps, crashes into trees, and runs fast enough to catch thrown balls before they even hit the ground. Since he doesn't care about his own wellbeing, it's my job to protect him as much as I can. And a lot of balls are hard enough to cause him pain or dental damage when he mistimes a catch. Enter the ChuckIt Glow Ball! The minute Cowboy got his first Glow Ball, he no longer had any interest in the dozens of tennis balls scattered around the house and yard. If I took the Glow Ball away and instead threw a tennis ball, Cowboy would run to retrieve the ball, then return without it and begin looking all over the house for the Glow Ball. The Glow Ball is tough enough to survive Cowboy's big, sharp chompers, yet it's soft enough to do no harm when it hits him in the face. The glow feature is a huge bonus, too. Cowboy gets distracted by chipmunks and squirrels when we're playing, so he sometimes can't remember where he dropped the ball to pursue the interloper. If the ball was exposed to enough light before it was misplaced, it will be easy to find once the sun goes down. (Otherwise, Cowboy always finds it eventually.) When I'm feeling nocturnal, I'll put the ball under a light for a few minutes to activate the electrons, then treat my boy to a middle-of-the-night game of fetch. I was so happy to see these on sale, I bought a lifetime supply for my pantry. The size guide seems accurate. ChuckIt recommended the large size for a dog of Cowboy's weight and that size is perfect. Highly recommended product.

This is a great ball for high energy dogs.
Color: Blue
I have a Belgian Malinois, so you can imagine the Maligator jaws. Just opened this today and let her play with it indoors. She LOVES IT. It wore her out and it’s a toy she can really stay focused on without needing me to throw or roll for her. It moves on its own! I supervised her play. I was hoping it was too big to get under the couch, but no. It goes right under it. I had to block off the gap so I didn’t have to keep getting it out from under for her. The outter “shell” is very durable! When she had resting moments, she chewed it pretty good - I could hear the material squeaking against her teeth. I was worried she was tearing it up, but nope! Not a mark on it. It’s easy to set up and operate. It needed charging before play. After hours of play, she was able to somehow unscrew the outter shell. This concerned me bc the smaller, inner ball mechanism came out but I saw it right away and was able to put it back together. So, make sure it’s screwed together tightly (which I thought I had done without breaking it) and check it from time to time to make sure it hasn’t loosened. This is a great ball for her incredible high energy drive. It gives her the work and fun play she needs to get tired, which I love. This toy is on the expensive end, but so far it’s worth it. Now we’ll see how long it lasts!

Love love it
Color: Blue
Best dog toy ever. I have a 1 year old boxer who is full of energy (understatement). This ball has provided more entertainment for us both than any dog toy I’ve ever purchased. Charge holds well and has a very resilient shell. I love it. Worth the price.

Great ball for limited entertainment. Replaceable outer shell is an amazing option!
Color: Blue, Color: Blue
Bought this for our 45lb, ball-obsessed Dutch shepherd/pit bull dog mix. I had one of these years ago with the hard shell and couldn’t be happier with the new foam shell. The new foam shell is much quieter and while our dog might put holes in it with his teeth, he doesn’t seem to ever pull pieces off. For engagement level, he found it VERY interesting at first and was scared to grab it, but once he got over that he started holding it in his mouth even when it shakes and just tries to keep it. Isn’t the best for fetch or anything as he has trouble letting it go when it is actively moving, but it makes him happy while he has it. We just make sure to monitor him while it is out. The ability to change the outer shell and just buy a replacement for the shell instead of a whole new toy is a lovely feature that makes me very happy to continue buying from this company.

Great Interactive Option
Color: Blue
To start, I have been very happy with this purchase. A couple of key points for me are durability and being able to keep my dog's attention. I have had it for almost a year, just a month shy, and she hasn't managed to get through the foam outer shell even though she tries real hard to do so. Let's just say, she's hard to find toys for because of her habit of finding the point of failure where she can pick and gnaw at until the toy is no longer safe for her to have. With this toy, she not only found her match, but it also has her watching, waiting, and even stalking. Only one small issue has recently occurred: the motor has started having an issue where the charge doesn't hold, and it doesn't remain on afterwards. I have reached out to Cheerble directly to see about replacing it since I am still within their 12-month timeframe, and they responded right away.
