Introducing the stunning White Ghost Cactus, also known as Euphorbia lactea variegata, a vibrant cultivar of Euphorbia lactea. While Euphorbia lactea White Ghost is commonly referred to as the "White Ghost Cactus," it's actually not a true cactus. It's a succulent shrub or a small tree from the Euphorbiaceae family.

The name "White Ghost" is given to it because of its pale white color and ghostly appearance. So, even though it's not a cactus, it's still called a "cactus" because of its cactus-like shape and the way it's often grouped with other succulent cacti.

With the thick, fleshy, triangular stems of the white ghost cacti, Euphorbia grows upright and branches out as it matures. The stems are variegated with shades of white, green, and sometimes even pink or yellow.

Instead of leaves, it has small, spiky thorns or spines along the edges of its stems. These thorns are not only decorative but also serve as a defense mechanism against predators.

Native to the tropical regions of Africa and Asia, with a slow growth rate, the Euphorbia lactea White Ghost cactus can grow up to 6 feet tall in its natural habitat. However, when grown as a houseplant, it tends to stay smaller, usually reaching heights of about 1 to 3 feet. Its size can also be controlled through pruning and proper care.

The flowers Go to https://planetdesert.com/collections/soil-top-dressing-and-amendments/products/soil-cactus-mix-blend-1-gal-4-qt-cacti-succulent-dirt-compost-growing-media of the white ghost cacti bloom in the spring season with yellow-white or greenish-yellow hues. These flowers may not be as showy as those of other plants, but they have their own charm. The blooms are surrounded by colorful bracts, which are modified leaves that often have a variegated pattern of white, green, and sometimes pink. Together, the flowers and braces create an interesting and eye-catching display.

When and How to Water Your White Ghost Cactus

To keep your White Ghost cacti happy and healthy, it's best to water them sparingly. In between waterings, let the soil dry out completely. This means waiting until the soil is dry to the touch before giving it a good drink. The White Ghost Cactus should only be watered when the soil is completely dry, typically every 2–3 weeks in active growth, and once a month or less during dormancy.

In the spring and summer, during the growing season, Euphorbia lactea variegata needs watering once every 2-3 weeks. The soak-and-dry method is the best technique to develop this plant. However, it's important to adjust the watering frequency based on the environmental conditions and the moisture level of the soil. In hot and dry climates, you may need to water it more often, while in cooler and more humid conditions, less frequent watering may be required.

During the winter months, when the cactus is in its dormant period, you should reduce the watering to once a month. It's best to water sparingly, only when the soil is completely dry. This helps prevent the risk of overwatering and allows the cactus to rest during its dormant phase.

Light Requirements - Where to Place Your Euphorbia Lactea

When growing the White Ghost Cactus indoors, it thrives in bright, indirect light for at least 4-6 hours a day. Place this potted plant near a window that receives plenty of sunlight throughout the day. However, be cautious of placing it in direct sunlight, especially during the intense afternoon sun, as it can scorch the delicate succulent.

If you notice your white ghost succulent stretching or becoming pale, it may be an indication that it needs more light. In that case, you can consider supplementing its light with a grow light to ensure it gets the necessary brightness.

If you are growing the White Ghost plant outdoors, this Euphorbia lactea variegata needs full to partial sun, for at least 4-6 hours a day. Just make sure to acclimate your Euphorbia white ghost gradually to the outdoor conditions if it has been indoors for an extended period. Start by placing your Euphorbia ghost cacti in a partially shaded area and gradually expose it to more sunlight over a few weeks.

Optimal Soil & Fertilizer Needs

When it comes to the soil, the White Ghost plants need well-drained soil and should be fertilized once a year in spring. You can create a suitable soil mix by combining equal parts of succulent potting mix, perlite, and coarse sand. Planet Desert specializes in succulents and has that includes an organic substrate with mycorrhizae to help with the growth of a healthy root system to help your white ghost Euphorbia succulents thrive.

During the growing season, which is typically in spring, you can fertilize your ghost cactus once a year. Choose a balanced (5-10-5), water-soluble NPK fertilizer specifically formulated for succulents. Follow the instructions for dilution and apply the fertilizer to damp soil to avoid any potential root burn. During the dormant period in winter, it's best to avoid fertilizing altogether.

Hardiness Zone & More

If you're growing the White Ghost plant outdoors, it is typically suited for USDA zones 9 to 11.

These zones generally have milder climates with frost-free winters and warm summers.

If you live in a region with colder temperatures, it's best to keep the succulent indoors or provide protection during winter months to prevent any damage from freezing temperatures.

It's important to avoid excessive humidity, as it can increase the risk of fungal diseases. Aim for a moderate humidity level, around 40% to 60%, to create a comfortable environment for your ghost cacti.

How to Grow Best Indoors the White Ghost Cactus

If you are growing your white ghost cactus indoors, it thrives in temperatures ranging from 60°F to 80°F. It's important to keep your Euphorbia lactea variegata away from drafts or sudden temperature fluctuations, as it prefers a stable and consistent climate. So, find a cozy spot in your home where the temperature remains within this range, and your white ghost will be happy.

Wildlife - Euphorbia lactea Attracts the Following Friendly Pollinators

The variegated Euphorbia lactea produces small, inconspicuous flowers that are primarily pollinated by bees, hummingbirds, and butterflies. These friendly pollinators are attracted to the nectar and pollen of the flowers, helping to ensure successful fertilization and seed production for this unique species.

Butterflies
Bees
Hummingbirds
Lady Bugs
Multi Pollinators
Other Birds

According to ASPCA, the variegated Euphorbia lactea is mildly toxic to humans and cats if ingested in large amounts. The milky sap of the plant can irritate the mouth and stomach and result in symptoms like diarrhea, vomiting, and lethargy.

Propagating White Ghost Cactus

To propagate the White Ghost Cactus, take healthy stem cuttings, let them callus for a few days, and plant them in a well-draining cactus mix. Place the pot in a warm, bright spot with indirect light and keep the soil lightly moist. Roots typically develop in a few weeks, especially when propagated in spring. You can also grow it from seeds, though this method takes longer and requires consistent moisture, warmth, and patience.

Key Takeaways

  1. The White Ghost Cactus is a rare and highly sought-after cultivar, prized for its striking white, silver, and pale green marbled stems that lack chlorophyll.
  2. This cactus-like euphorbia thrives in bright indirect light or filtered sun, making it an eye-catching choice for both indoor and outdoor displays.
  3. Unlike typical green succulents, the White Ghost’s ghostly coloration results from a mutation, which also makes it more sensitive to harsh sunlight.
  4. The plant is drought-tolerant once established, requiring very little water and thriving in dry, well-drained soil.

The Bottom Line

Overall, the White Ghost Euphorbia lactea is a stunning and unique addition to any succulent collection. With its pale white appearance and intricate patterns, it adds an ethereal touch to your indoor or outdoor space. This ghost cactus requires minimal care, making it suitable for both beginner and experienced plant enthusiasts. The Euphorbia lactea White Ghost is sure to captivate you with its otherworldly beauty and bring a touch of desert magic to your home or garden.

Not a huge fan of this
Style: Face, Size: 2 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
The pump bottle doesn't work, which isn't great but is also not a deal breaker. You can twist off the cap and get the product out that way. I may have just gotten a defective bottle, who knows? The sunscreen itself has a really nice texture like others have said and it goes on smoothly with no cast. But it also smells strongly like incense; several very fragrant plant ingredients at play here even though it has no artificial fragrances. Rosemary, some kind of australian pepper plant, and other strong smelling ingredients. If strong smells bother you, you might not like this one. I really don't like this smell. It made my skin red and itchy too, unfortunately. Not something I can really use :( Love what the company is doing with the clean ingredients, though. Lots of pros and cons here and I'd definitely recommend trying it out even though it wasn't my cup of tea. Getting the small sample size to start with was the right move!

I Look Forward to Using it Daily
Style: Face, Size: 2 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
I've used this for at least four years and it's my favorite daily defense sunscreen. I notice some people had reactions but I have sensitive skin and rosacea and am have no irritation from this product. But everyone is different ... It goes on with a hardly noticeable hint of white then is quickly absorbed. Almost seems to even out my pigmentation a little. For those who mentioned it's dry, I don't expect this to be a moisturizer and use it on top of a treatment from the dermatologist. It smells fresh but isn't strongly scented. I've also tried Elta MD and it's a good product but this is less expensive for more product. The pump is handy until it can't reach and it becomes necessary to take the lid off and tap the remaining product into your palm each day. There's a good week or so left when the pump comes up empty. Hope you have as good of luck as I have. Some mention oiliness and piling but that hasn't been the case, but I order from the manufacturer directly which may insure I get the freshest batch.

Quick and easy to apply, plus NO white cast on brown skin!
Style: Face, Size: 2 Fl Oz (Pack of 1), Style: Face, Size: 2 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
Admittedly, I don't normally wear sunscreen (maybe for a rare day at the beach, but certainly not on a daily basis). However, upon getting my first tattoo, I learned that the sun is a tattoo's mortal enemy, so I did a ton of research on sunscreens to find a good brand that would be effective in preventing the premature fading of my ink (gotta protect my investment, y'know?). Many people recommend mineral sunscreen instead of chemical for tattoos, and since I'm Black / brown / African American, my main concern was choosing a product that wouldn't leave a white cast. After reading the reviews of countless products, I finally settled on trying Thrive (the SPF 30 Face Sunscreen), and after two months of using this product, I can confidently say I hit the jackpot on the first try. The consistency of this sunscreen is creamy (similar to that of a standard lotion), so it spreads very easily and is "absorbed" into/onto the skin within seconds. And the best part is, there is absolutely NO white cast -- I've attached photos of both my tattooed and non-tattooed forearms post-sunscreen application for reference. You can see that there a little shine on my tattoo (which I actually like), but otherwise no discoloration from the product. In hindsight I probably should have taken before-and-after photos for both arms, but just take my word for it: there's seriously no cast. Also, the product has a slight smell (kind of citrusy, like grapefruit), but it's not strong nor unpleasant and it doesn't linger. After being rubbed in, the product feels a little sticky as it dries, but it dries pretty quickly and then leaves the skin feeling smooth/normal. The only semi-con I have is that after applying and reapplying multiple times in a single day (like 3+ times), I've noticed some slight white flakiness (I'm thinking this is just product build-up, since the minerals in this sunscreen sit on top of your skin as opposed to being fully absorbed). However, this is not really a big deal to me, as the flakes can be wiped away, but if it were really noticeable or if I knew I would need to continue reapplying that day, I could probably just wash my arm off real quick with some soap and water, then dry and reapply to resolve the problem. As a final note, I'm not actually sure if this sunscreen is effective in providing sun protection. I don't get sunburnt, so I don't really have any way of knowing whether this product is fulfilling its intended purpose (I guess time will tell; for now I'll just keep an eye out for my ink fading). But assuming it is in fact working, I 100% recommend this product!

Amazing Pimple Patches - Actually Work!
Size: 36 Count (Pack of 1)
Effectiveness: These Mighty Patch Original hydrocolloid patches have been absolutely incredible for treating breakouts quickly and effectively without harsh chemicals or painful extraction. The patches work remarkably well overnight, drawing out impurities and reducing the size and inflammation of pimples by morning. I love how they protect blemishes from picking and touching, which prevents further irritation and scarring. The clear design makes them virtually invisible during wear, so I can use them during the day without feeling self-conscious. The patches stick securely without being painful to remove, and they genuinely speed up the healing process compared to leaving breakouts untreated. Quality: Hero Cosmetics has created an exceptional product with these hydrocolloid patches that clearly demonstrates superior manufacturing quality. The adhesive is perfectly balanced - strong enough to stay in place through sleep and daily activities but gentle enough to remove without skin irritation. The hydrocolloid material is high-grade and effectively draws out fluid and impurities without over-drying the surrounding skin. The patches maintain their integrity throughout wear and don't fall apart or lose effectiveness. The sterile packaging ensures product safety and hygiene, which is essential for treating open or inflamed skin. Value for Money: These pimple patches provide outstanding value when you consider how effectively they treat breakouts while preventing scarring and further damage from picking. The cost per patch is reasonable considering the dramatic results they deliver, often clearing blemishes faster than expensive acne treatments. The prevention of scarring alone makes these worth far more than their price, as treating acne scars is much more expensive and time-consuming than preventing them. The convenience and effectiveness make these far more cost-effective than multiple skincare products or dermatologist visits for individual breakouts. These patches have become essential in my skincare routine and consistently deliver impressive results. Highly recommend for anyone dealing with occasional or persistent breakouts who wants fast, effective treatment!

The best patches!
Size: 36 Count (Pack of 1)
These work amazingly well! I just stick one on before bed and by morning the pimple is noticeably flatter and less red. It really does what it says without any picking or irritation. They stay on all night even if I toss and turn, which I was surprised by, and they don’t feel uncomfortable at all while sleeping. I also like that they’re thin and kind of blend into the skin, so you don’t really notice them if you wear them during the day either. Super simple, effective, and way less stressful than dealing with breakouts the usual way. They fit well and the size is great, really absorbs all the yuck from a pimple. A great value for money!
