Evergreen Shrub's Colorful Flowers is a Hummingbird Magnet!
Callistemon citrinus ‘Little John’ Bottlebrush tree is a unique and dwarf evergreen that is sure to turn heads in your garden!
With bright red flowers that embody the bottlebrush family, the compact flowering shrub features blue-green foliage that is narrow and spindly. The blood-red bottlebrush flower spikes are extremely attractive to hummingbirds and butterflies who will fly for miles to get to the sweet nectar the flowers offer.
The red blooms look beautiful cut for vases or floral arrangements and will bloom throughout spring and summer. The dense evergreen foliage will put off a citrus aroma when crushed.
With a low, spreading habit the Little John Bottlebrush is perfect for smaller gardens, containers, foundation plantings, or used as a groundcover.
LITTLE JOHN DWARF BOTTLEBRUSH CARE
Grow this bottlebrush shrub across the United States in USDA growing zones 8-11. With little maintenance needed to keep it thriving, it is adaptable to most soil sites as long as it’s in full sun with well-draining soil. The Little John prefers slightly acidic soil
The mature tree size is up to 3 feet tall and 5 feet wide making it wider than it is tall, and the perfect small tree. It has a slow growth rate of up to and rounded shape that look good in borders or garden beds as an accent plant.
Apply a slow-release fertilizer in the early spring growing season to help boost growth and flower production. Prune the evergreen shrub as needed to maintain desired shape and size. Maintain a regular watering schedule until the dense shrub establishes into the landscape. If planted in a container, it will need more frequent watering.
This low-maintenance shrub is heat and drought-tolerant, salt spray tolerant, deer resistant, easy to grow and care for, and looks beautiful in any garden all year long!
