Anthurium 'Dark Phoenix'

Anthurium 'Dark Phoenix' is a cultivated velvet Anthurium grown for deep green to near-black leaves, rounded lobes and a restrained vein pattern beneath the dark surface. New leaves can open with bronze, red-brown or olive tones before darkening.

The plant forms a compact to medium crown with heart-shaped blades held outward on firm petioles. Dark velvet texture, broad leaf shape and subtle venation show best with steady warmth, filtered light and an airy root zone.

Anthurium 'Dark Phoenix' key traits

  • Leaf texture: Velvet surface with a soft sheen under filtered light.
  • Leaf colour: Dark green to very dark mature blades, often with warmer tones on new growth.
  • Leaf shape: Rounded heart-shaped blades with broad lobes and a defined sinus.
  • Growth habit: Self-heading Anthurium that builds from a central crown.

Anthurium 'Dark Phoenix' indoor care

  • Light: Provide bright filtered light and protect soft or pale foliage from harsh midday sun.
  • Watering: Water when the upper part of the substrate has started to dry, then drain thoroughly.
  • Substrate: Use a loose Anthurium mix with bark, coco chips, pumice or perlite so roots receive moisture and oxygen.
  • Temperature: Keep warm, ideally around 18–28 °C, and protect from cold wet substrate.
  • Humidity: Moderate to high humidity helps new leaves expand cleanly; pair humidity with gentle airflow.
  • Feeding: Feed lightly during active growth with a diluted complete fertiliser.
  • Repotting: Repot when roots fill the pot or the mix begins to collapse.
  • Leaf care: Dust with a soft dry brush or barely damp cloth; rough wiping can scuff velvet leaves.

Anthurium 'Dark Phoenix' issues to check

  • Yellowing lower leaves: Check for compacted substrate, cool roots or a pot staying wet for too long.
  • Brown edges: Review humidity, watering gaps and fertiliser strength.
  • Distorted new growth: Inspect young leaves for thrips or mites and stabilise humidity.
  • Soft stems or crown: Check root health and improve drainage immediately.

Anthurium 'Dark Phoenix' handling and safety

Anthurium 'Dark Phoenix' should be kept away from pets and children that may chew plant material. Like other Anthuriums, it contains calcium oxalate crystals that can irritate the mouth, throat, skin and eyes.

Anthurium 'Dark Phoenix' name background

Anthurium belongs to the family Araceae. The genus name comes from Greek anthos, meaning flower, and oura, meaning tail, referring to the spadix.

Great no shows for people with larger feet
Size: Large, Color: (001) Black / Black / Castlerock
Some of my favorite socks!! Great quality, fit, and material. I love that they don't slip down in my shoes, especially considering I have larger feet. I also love that Under Armour offers larger sizes in their socks considering everyone in our household has much larger feet than others.

Best liner socks EVER
Size: Medium, Color: (348) Silica Green / Silica Green / Hydro Green
I have them in every color and used to get them from Sams, but they stopped selling them and I was lucky to find them on Amazon. Got all colors again. They stay, it's all I'm gonna say! And don't show in any of my tennis shoes. Absolutely love them and wear them until they get holes. They last a LONG time too. They're on the thin side and my foot loves them because they tend to get hot. There's no shrinking, they wash great with exception of the white ones I couldn't manage to keep white - they turned a bit greyish.
