Wrapped up in a long history of friendship, romance and tropical exoticism, nothing says welcome more than the stately pineapple...

{HISTORY}

The story of how the pineapple became known as the universal symbol of hospitality dates all the way back to New England in the time of the sea captains. Legend states that when they would return from their trading trips to tropical islands, they would spear a fresh pineapple on their garden gate to let friends and neighbors know that they were back in town and ready to entertain everyone with a meal and stories from the sea.

Back in those days, pineapples were the most exotic of fruit, admired not only for their sweet flavor but also for their striking appearance. A well-loved symbol in the South, you can find pineapples in a variety of different places from exterior architectural details to bed and breakfast logos to all sorts of functional and artistic interior display items.

This vintage pineapple was once part of a courtyard fountain where it served as the top tier of the water spout. Even though fountains are stationary items, this one saw a little bit of adventure, evident in two broken leaves, but its overall patina is so authenticly worn and gorgeous, its flaws only make it look more interesting.

{SPECIAL FEATURES}

- Hefty weight

- Hollow form

- Made of plaster resin

- Dark slate grey color

- Weathered patina

{CONDITION}

Two leaves in total have broken off from the pineapple - two in the crown and one from the middle section (around the base of the pineapple). They were clean breaks, so they are not ragged or sharp to the touch, and it is possible to rotate the pineapple to one angle which will conspicuously hide the broken sections.Naturally weathered color variations highlight the base and light paint scuffing in some areas offers visual appeal. Please see photos.

{SIZE}

 Measures 13" inches (height) x 6.75 (diameter at base). Leaf to leaf in the widest section of the pineapple measures approximately 8" inches in width.

{STYLE IDEA}

For use as a lovely table centerpiece, garden statue, door stop or unique display item, this hospitable salvage piece offers a host of creative decorating options with year-round appeal.

A Poetic Parable of Silence and Resistance
Format: Paperback
Ilya Kaminsky's Deaf Republic is a haunting narrative of political turmoil and collective silence, where a community's deafness becomes a powerful act of defiance. Through lyrical verse, Kaminsky weaves a tale of love, loss, and resistance, capturing the profound consequences of political violence on ordinary lives. This collection is a poignant testament to the resilience of the human spirit amidst oppression and serves as a stark reminder of our moral responsibilities in troubled times.

One of the most original and moving books of poems I've ever read
Format: Paperback
Ilya Kaminsky is practically a legend, at this point, and deservedly so. This is his second book of poems, and proves well worth the wait. The individual poems are beautiful and strange; together, they comprise a kind of allegory for our times, and manage to be both somehow light-of-heart, somehow luminous, and also seriously profound. I would recommend this book even to those who don't usually read poetry, because it's beyond poetry, truly.
