Ideal size and coverage:

Pebbles range from approximately 1 inch in size up to 2 inch. One gallon covers about 18 in diameter depending on depth of layer.   Half gallon covers about 12 in diameter depending on depth of layer.

Helps retain moisture and reduce mess: A top layer of pebbles helps reduce soil splash when watering, limits evaporation, and keeps lightweight potting mix in place – great for indoor plants and clean windowsills.
