Spiderwort (Tradescantia ohiensis) is a clump-forming perennial that grows up to 2 to 3 feet tall and spreads 1.5 to 3 feet wide. Its showy flowers, ranging in color from dark blue to rose-blue, bloom from May to July, adding vibrant beauty to gardens. For optimal blooming, plant it in full sun, though it will also tolerate partial shade. Thriving in dry to medium, well-drained soil with acidic pH, it is easy to grow and a versatile choice for gardeners.
The flowers of Spiderwort are short-lived, opening for just a day, but the plant can continue blooming into fall if trimmed back in midsummer. Over time, clumps may become overcrowded and benefit from division to maintain their health and appearance. With its seasonal charm and adaptability, Spiderwort is a fantastic addition to spring and summer landscapes, offering both beauty and ease of care.
