They are often short-lived (12-25 years) but very beautiful, small trees (10-15 feet) with prolific, early, spring flowers, shiny, maroon bark, and glossy foliage. Cherries prefer very well-drained soils and full sun. They are a lovely garden tree and will be very happy on the north edge of the vegetable garden or in the midst of your perennials.

Tart cherries and some sweet cherries are self fertile. All will probably produce more and larger fruit with a different pollinator.
