Prickly Pear Cactus (Opuntia spp.)

Prickly Pear Cactus is a classic desert plant known for its flat, paddle-shaped segments and bold, sculptural presence. The pads range from deep green to blue-green and are covered in fine glochids and occasional spines, giving the plant its unmistakable look. Hardy and sun-loving, this cactus adds instant southwest vibes and strong texture to any bright space.

While often grown outdoors in warmer climates, Prickly Pear adapts well to indoor life with enough light and well-draining soil.

Care Tips:
☀️ Light: Bright light to full sun; a sunny window is ideal
💧 Water: Water sparingly; allow soil to dry out completely between waterings
🌫 Humidity: Prefers low humidity
❄️ Temperature: Thrives in warm temps (65–90°F); many varieties tolerate cooler temps if kept dry
🐾 Pet Friendly: Yes

Fun Fact:
Prickly Pears can produce colorful flowers and edible fruit (called tunas) in the right conditions—both the pads and fruit are staples in many traditional cuisines 🌵✨
