Aeschynanthus ‘Mona Lisa’

Warm red to orange-red flower clusters make Aeschynanthus ‘Mona Lisa’ a classic flowering lipstick plant for a hanging pot or raised planter. Smooth, glossy green leaves cover the flexible stems, and established shoots carry stronger clusters as the plant matures.

Glossy leaves with warm-toned flowers

Leaves are smooth and firm, with side shoots gradually increasing crown density over time. Young plants usually build roots and stems first before producing stronger flower clusters.

Airy roots and flowering growth

Aeschynanthus ‘Mona Lisa’ grows best with bright filtered light, warmth and a loose substrate that drains freely around the roots. Mature stems flower more readily when the plant is not repeatedly moved, dried hard or kept cold while buds develop.

How to care for Aeschynanthus ‘Mona Lisa’

  • Light: Provide bright filtered light to support compact growth and flowering.
  • Watering: Water thoroughly after the upper substrate has partly dried, then drain.
  • Substrate: Use a free-draining, airy mix that holds light moisture.
  • Warmth: Keep the plant warm and away from cold draughts.
  • Feeding: Feed lightly during active growth.
  • Pruning: Trim stems after flowering to encourage branching.
  • Flowering: Retain mature stems and keep watering and conditions steady while buds develop, as established shoots flower more readily.

Common Aeschynanthus ‘Mona Lisa’ problems and solutions

  • Wrinkled leaves: Glossy leaves lose firmness due to a dry root ball or uneven watering; check moisture through the full pot and rewater evenly.
  • Yellow leaves with a heavy pot: Leaves yellow while the substrate remains wet due to dense substrate or declining roots; inspect drainage and root health.
  • Bud drop: Buds fall from mature shoot tips due to sudden cooling, dryness or movement; avoid cold draughts, full dry-outs and moving the plant while buds develop.
  • Sparse crown: Growth remains concentrated at long stem ends when light is limited or branching is weak; improve filtered light and prune after flowering.
  • Brown leaf tips: Leaf ends turn brown from irregular watering, persistently dry air, excessive feeding or mineral build-up; check watering consistency and feeding, and flush accumulated minerals when needed.
  • Sticky or distorted shoots: Residue or distortion on new growth indicates mealybugs, scale or aphids; check tips and joints before pests spread into fresh growth.

Safety around pets and children

Aeschynanthus ‘Mona Lisa’ is generally considered non-toxic. A raised or hanging position helps keep the stems intact.

Great chew toy
The bam bone is definitely a great choice for a dog that loves to chew whenever I hand my dog one of these he just gets excited and then he’ll just chew on it for at least 1520 minutes at the beginning and then it will last him for at least good three weeks to a month before I need to get him another one that’s why I definitely like the two pack

Small chewer dog friendly...2 in package..Funx2
Shiba pup LOVES these. We play fetch in the back yard with one and the other is to gnaw on rather than my couch inside!! He is a super super duper chewer and really enjoying his new teeth so much that he's gnawed past the brown of the stick to white plastic so I had to take 1 away. It's a smaller stick 6-8 inches so I do worry about him walking or running while playing fetch and falling (new feet too!!) and hurt his mouth or throat. I will definitely be replacing it at least 1x while he's small but I wouldn't recommend this item to a big dog with big teeth.

Small
They were smaller then I thought they would be the size for a small dog or puppy. My dogs thought they were great.

The best small dog chew stick ever
I've bought these several times and given them out to friends. These last a lot longer than the rawhide chews. Our poodles love them; over the past year, they are the go-to toy. My daughter and son-in-law's Dalmatian, who went through a moose antler in two days, still has one of these in decent shape after two months.
