With its sculptural rosette and beautifully striped foliage, the variegated Bird's Nest Fern brings a bright tropical feel to any indoor space. The fresh green fronds are marked with creamy brushstroke-like variegation, giving the plant a layered, textured look that feels both lush and architectural.
This is a fantastic choice for styling shelves, consoles, or softly lit corners where you want foliage with movement and character. As a form of Asplenium nidus, it suits warm indoor conditions and rewards steady care with a full, elegant canopy of gently arching leaves.
| Position | Keep in bright, indirect light or gentle medium light indoors. Avoid harsh direct sun, especially on variegated foliage, as it can scorch the fronds. |
| Temperature | Prefers warm conditions and will grow best above 18°C. Keep it away from cold drafts and try not to let temperatures drop below 10°C. |
| Water | Keep the potting mix lightly and evenly moist, but not soggy. Let the top of the mix begin to dry slightly between waterings and avoid pouring water directly into the centre of the rosette. |
| Fertiliser | Feed lightly during the warmer growing months if you would like to encourage larger growth. A diluted indoor plant fertiliser used occasionally is plenty. |
| Repotting | Repot only once the plant is established and filling its pot. Choose a free-draining mix and avoid jumping up more than one pot size at a time. |
| Pet Friendly | Yes, Asplenium nidus is generally regarded as pet friendly. |
