The Agave parryi truncata, commonly known as the Artichoke Agave, is one of the most recognizable and cold-hardy agaves available. Native to the deserts of the Southwestern United States and northern Mexico, this compact agave is prized for its tight, symmetrical rosette and striking blue to dark green foliage.
With its manageable size, extreme toughness, and sculptural form, it’s an exceptional choice for xeriscapes, containers, and modern landscapes.
🌵 Key Features & Growing Habits
Exceptional Cold Hardiness ❄️
One of the toughest agaves, Agave parryi truncata can tolerate temperatures down to approximately 10°F, performing well in USDA zones 7–11 when grown in well-draining soil.
Compact, Sculptural Form 📏
Forms a dense, symmetrical rosette of thick, fleshy leaves with a distinctive artichoke-like appearance.
• Mature size: up to 2 ft tall × 2 ft wide
This makes it ideal for small gardens, focal plantings, and decorative containers.
