The widest maple leaves in the world. The most spectacular fall color of any maple.

Acer japonicum, the Full Moon Maple, is the larger, more boldly leaved relative of the Japanese Maple, producing round, deeply lobed leaves with 9 to 11 lobes that can reach 6 inches across and turn the most vivid shades of scarlet, crimson, and orange in fall of any maple species in cultivation. The Full Moon Maple is less commonly grown than its relative Acer palmatum but is considered by serious maple collectors to produce superior fall color and a more substantial, architectural presence in the garden. The 'Oisami' selection develops into an upright, spreading small tree with leaves that unfurl in spring tinged with red before settling into fresh green for summer. Seed-grown Full Moon Maples express the natural genetic variation of the species, producing trees with individual character that no grafted nursery selection can match. If you are looking to buy Full Moon Maple seeds or grow Japanese Full Moon Maple from seed, this is the maple that redefines what fall color means.

  • The largest-leaved native maple of Japan, with round, 9 to 11-lobed leaves reaching 6 inches across
  • Among the most vivid fall color displays of any maple in cultivation, deep scarlet to crimson
  • Develops a more substantial, architectural form than Acer palmatum, suited to larger garden spaces
  • Seed-grown specimens produce individual genetic variation in leaf form, color intensity, and growth habit
  • Prized by Japanese maple collectors worldwide as a more dramatic alternative to the more common species

Things you probably did not know about the Full Moon Maple

It is named for the shape of its leaves. The Japanese name for Acer japonicum is Hauchiwa kaede, meaning round fan maple, referring to the nearly circular leaf outline that resembles a full moon. The leaf is so distinctive in its rounded, fan-like form that it has been used as a design motif in Japanese textile and ceramic art for centuries.

The fall color transition happens faster than almost any other maple. Full Moon Maple fall color often develops in a matter of days rather than the gradual progression seen in Sugar Maple or Red Maple. A tree that is entirely green on a Monday morning can be fully crimson by Thursday after the first cold night of autumn. The speed and intensity of the color change makes it one of the most dramatic events in any autumn garden.

It is significantly rarer in cultivation than Acer palmatum. While hundreds of Acer palmatum cultivars fill nursery catalogs, Acer japonicum remains much less commonly grown in western horticulture. The combination of superior fall color and relative scarcity makes it genuinely sought after by collectors and serious Japanese maple enthusiasts. Growing from seed is often the most accessible way to acquire it.

The leaves are edible in Japan. Young Full Moon Maple leaves are battered and deep-fried in a Japanese confection called momiji tempura, a traditional autumn treat sold at temples and festivals in Osaka and throughout the Kansai region. The leaves are sometimes salt-preserved for up to a year before frying. The resulting tempura is delicate, crisp, and mildly sweet, one of the most unusual edible leaf preparations in any culinary tradition.

Amazing value, looks great - quite durable
Color: Gold
I recently hosted a large dinner party and decided to go with the 300 Pack Premium Heavy Duty Gold Plastic Silverware. Let me tell you, it was a great choice! First off, the set comes with 100 forks, spoons, and knives, which was perfect for my guest list of 100. I love that it’s all in one package, so I didn’t have to stress about running out of cutlery during the event. The heavy-duty plastic feels surprisingly sturdy, and I didn’t have a single fork bend or break, even with the heartier dishes I served. The gold metallic finish added such an elegant touch to the table setting. My guests complimented how fancy it looked for disposable cutlery! It really elevated the overall vibe of the dinner without the hassle of using real silverware or worrying about cleanup. After the meals, all I had to do was toss everything into the trash, which saved me a ton of time and effort. Another thing I appreciated was the organized storage box. It kept everything neat and clean until I was ready to use it, which is a bonus if you're planning an event. All in all, I highly recommend this set for anyone hosting gatherings. It combines functionality with a stylish appearance, making cleanup a breeze while still impressing your guests.

Slight odor, more flexible than I expected
Color: Gold, Color: Gold
These looked like they were going to be heavy duty, but they were more flexible than I expected (see video clip). They probably still will work well, but if you’re poking your fork into something stiff, expect that the fork might bend some. There was a slight chemical odor when I opened the package, and I’m not a fan of that. As someone with MCS, I have to avoid exposure to fragrances and other harmful chemicals, and it makes me wonder what these are coated with. The gold might be cute for the aesthetic you’re going for with a particular gathering or party, but I find it unnecessary. I would rather go with the real heavy duty ones that are clear plastic from a club warehouse rather than these gold ones. I feel that these are overpriced for the quality, but not a bad price if all you’re going for is the gold aesthetic.

Nice, high end look, disposable
Color: Gold, Color: Gold
I hate to spend a lot of money on something that's just going to be thrown away, so typically buy dollar store disposable silverware for parties and gatherings. But every once in a while, you want something more upscale or high end looking. Enter this pricy but pretty plastic silverware. It is perfect for a wedding, anniversary, shower or other event where you want a nicer look instead of basic. It is sturdy. You won't have to worry about it breaking as someone spears a bite of chicken. It looks great! There's only so much you can do with plastic ware but for what it is, it looks really nice.

Great disposable bowl for pets
I feed my Savannah Cat raw food and use these disposable bowls for hygienic reasons. They are sturdier than paper bowls and he doesn’t chew on these plastic bowls like he does with paper bowls. 12 Oz is a perfect size, and they are a great value for the money.
