Dracaena marginata 'Black Knight', also known as Madagascar Dragon Tree, is an attractive, slow-growing evergreen plant known for its striking dark green, almost black, narrow leaves with red edges. The plant typically reaches a height of 1.5-2 meters and spreads about 0.5-1 meter wide, making it a popular choice for both indoor and outdoor landscapes.
To grow Dracaena marginata 'Black Knight', choose a location with bright, indirect light; it can tolerate lower light conditions but will grow more slowly. Use well-draining soil, preferably a mix designed for succulents or cacti, to prevent root rot. Water the plant moderately, allowing the top 2-3 cm of soil to dry out between waterings. Overwatering can lead to root rot, so it's important to avoid letting the plant sit in water. Fertilize every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer. Pruning is rarely needed, but you can trim back any dead or damaged leaves to maintain its appearance. Dracaena marginata 'Black Knight' is an excellent choice for adding a dramatic, architectural element to your home or garden with minimal maintenance requirements.
