Giant, Versatile Fruit Tree

Common Names: Jackfruit, Jakfruit, Nangka
Family: Moraceae
Origin: South and Southeast Asia

The Jackfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus) is a tropical tree known for producing the largest fruit of any tree, weighing up to 100 pounds or more. Native to South and Southeast Asia, Jackfruit trees are highly prized for their fruit, which has a unique texture and sweet, tropical flavor. The tree is an excellent addition to tropical and subtropical gardens, growing quickly and producing abundant fruit within a few years. Jackfruit seedlings are a great way to start growing this versatile and nutritious fruit, which can be eaten fresh, cooked, or used as a meat substitute in plant-based diets.

Distinctive Features, Uses, and Nutritional Value

Fruit: The Jackfruit produces massive, oblong fruits covered in a spiky green or yellow rind. Inside, the sweet, golden-yellow flesh is divided into pods that are rich in flavor and can be eaten fresh, cooked in savory dishes, or used in desserts. Young, unripe jackfruit is often used as a plant-based meat alternative due to its texture and ability to absorb flavors. Jackfruit is highly nutritious, providing significant amounts of vitamin C, potassium, and dietary fiber.

Foliage: The tree has large, glossy green leaves that provide shade and create a lush, tropical appearance.

Growth Habit: Jackfruit trees can grow up to 80 feet tall in ideal conditions but are usually pruned to a manageable height of 20-30 feet in home gardens. The tree grows quickly, and seedlings can begin fruiting within 3-5 years under optimal conditions.

Culinary and Medicinal Uses

Jackfruit is incredibly versatile in the kitchen. The ripe fruit is sweet and fragrant, often compared to a mix of pineapple, banana, and mango. It is eaten fresh or used in desserts, smoothies, and jams. The young, unripe fruit is a popular meat substitute in vegan and vegetarian dishes due to its fibrous texture. It is commonly used in curries, tacos, and sandwiches. In traditional medicine, various parts of the jackfruit tree are used for their anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties, and the seeds can be boiled or roasted and eaten as a snack.

Engaging and Educational! Perfect for Little Astronomers! 🌟
Format: Board book
"8 Little Planets" is an absolute delight for young readers and their parents alike! As a parent of a toddler who is just starting to explore the wonders of space, I found this book to be a fantastic introduction to the solar system. The colorful illustrations are vibrant and captivating, immediately drawing in little ones' attention. The rhyming text is fun and easy to read aloud, making it a joy to share this book during storytime. What I love most about "8 Little Planets" is how it manages to make learning about the planets so engaging. Each planet is given its moment to shine with a little story that is both informative and age-appropriate. The book also subtly incorporates the latest astronomical knowledge, like the reclassification of Pluto, which is a great touch. It's clear that this book was created with care and attention to detail, and it's become a favorite in our home. Whether you're raising a future astronaut or just looking for a fun way to introduce your child to science, "8 Little Planets" is a stellar choice!

Solar system board book:EXCELLENT, INFORMATIONAL AND FUN
Format: Board book
My niece loved this book. As did I! I always found outer space fascinating, but have forgotten many facts from my youth. When I ordered it, read it through and was very happy about all the information packed I. Such a fun book. There is even an honorary mention of Pluto. Vibrant, fun, factual, EXCELLENT! she got a astronaut costume also, so now she’s got all the tools for her imaginary space travel.

Amazon should know how to deliver books without damaging.
Format: Board book, Format: Board book
This is a fantastic book and the back has fun facts, plus a dedication the minor planet Pluto that was not included. If you are Gen-x you know that acknowledging Pluto on the back just warms yor heart. Most of the science info is on the back cover. The board book focuses on naming the planets and the artistry. I think this is great and the extra facts on the back are better for older kids who might want to pretend they are too big for baby books. This is a really beautiful book, but there was damage. The lip is all suffered up and marred (2nd picture) and where you open the book (1st picture) there is already a wear crease. I blame the defects on Amazon, but a cellophane wrap might have helped prevent the damage
