'Little Zebra' Dwarf Zebra Grass | Miscanthus sinensis 'Little Zebra' is a show-stopping enhanced ornamental grass that adds distinctive texture and year-round appeal to your garden. It grows shorter and more erect than other types.  This tiny species, which is hardy in zones 5 through 9, has gorgeous green foliage that is sharply striped with horizontal yellow bands, giving it a zebra-like appearance all during the growth season.  For extra landscape appeal, beautiful reddish-pink plumes emerge above the leaves in late summer or early autumn. These plumes mature to a mellow tan and continue into the winter.  Although they have a faint earthy perfume, the blossoms are more for show than for powerful fragrance.  'Little Zebra' grows to a moderate height of 3 to 4 feet and spreads 2 to 3 feet wide, making it ideal for container gardening, foundation plantings, and borders.  It is perfect for both novice and seasoned gardeners since it is native, resistant to rabbits and deer, low care, and simple to cultivate.  This adaptable grass attracts birds and butterflies, blooms for a long period, blends in well with bigger settings, produces gorgeous cut flowers, and adds outstanding winter interest.  Large doses of any ornamental grass may cause moderate stomach distress, but they are not hazardous to dogs.  It is a low-maintenance pollinator-friendly choice that grows best in full sun and soil that drains well.  Plant in the early spring or autumn, mulch around the base to retain moisture and keep weeds at bay, and water often throughout the first growing season to create strong roots.  Before new growth appears in late winter or early spring, prune back to a few inches above the ground.  Although 'Little Zebra' often thrives without intensive feeding, if you'd like, gently treat in the spring with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer.  For a season-long, low-maintenance splash of color and movement, include this striking, colorful grass into your landscape.

Care:

Fertilize in early spring with our SR-18-5-10 slow release fertilizer for maximum growth and plant health.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is little zebra and how is it different from other zebra grass?

It’s a compact form of zebra grass with bold horizontal banding on green blades and a more upright habit. Miscanthus sinensis 'Little Zebra' typically stays tidier and shorter than many standard Miscanthus varieties. In late summer to fall, it can produce airy plumes that add seasonal color and winter interest.

How big does little zebra get at maturity?

Expect a zebra grass height of about 3–4 feet in bloom, with a zebra grass size around 2–3 feet wide. As a little zebra maiden grass, it forms a dense clump rather than running through the garden. Give it enough space so the arching blades and flower plumes can show off.

How do I plant little zebra for the best results?

Choose a full-sun spot with well-draining soil, then plant zebra grass at the same depth it was growing in its container. Water regularly during the first growing season to establish deep roots, then reduce to occasional watering once established. For easy care for zebra grass, cut old stems back to a few inches in late winter or early spring before new growth starts.

delightful read
Format: Kindle
What a delightful read. The characters are awesome, the plot was so good, I loved it. I was intrigued and it kept me wanting more. Told in multiple pov, the book sucks you in and doesn’t let go. I cannot wait to read the next book.

not bad
Format: Kindle
I loved the plot of this book. The characters just didn’t have a lot of depth. The connections and “love” just weren’t communicated very well in the writing. The author didn’t write the sweet psycho trope very well at all either. Lachlan was just a mess of a character.

A Beta Worth Rooting For
Format: Kindle
In Spare, Violet Fox flips the omegaverse on its head, giving us a Beta heroine determined to make her mark. Joining the Beta Trials to support her sick father, she's thrown into a pack that doesn't want her, especially the possessive Alphas. But here's the twist: their sweet Omega turns out to be her scent match. Cue the angst, forbidden tension, and a slow-burn romance that will make your heart ache in the best way. Violet Fox delivers an emotional, refreshing take on the genre, proving Betas aren't "spares." They're stars.

Beta, Alpha, Omega oh my!
Format: Kindle
Omegas are precious and given to Alphas & their packs... but the Betas want in too. To this end, the Beta government is rolling out its trial of assigning a Beta to each Alpha-Omega pack. But forcing a Beta into a pack where they are not wanted will not end well... Of course, no one expected the Omega to fall for the assigned Beta. Great read and cliffhanger

A familiar story, just with…..less.
Format: Kindle
So, as other reviewers make clear, this is very similar to Pack Darling and The Beta. It’s much closer aligned with The Beta, in plot and maybe more like Pack Darling with characters. That being said, I don’t hate this…..but it wasn’t great either. It’s both books mentioned but just….less. Less angst, less emotion, less feeling. The plot feels very half fleshed out, and the “bad guy” feels underwhelming. I didn’t really feel any real emotions from and of the male leads, except maybe Oliver. The others fell sorta flat for me. And Mika makes herself out to be this big bad ass straight outta training and then we never see it from here again with the one fitting room incident as the exception. SPOILER: The whole, “Oh, I’m actually probably an Omega, but I don’t wanna be but I do actually wanna be but no one can ever know my secret that I do nothing to hide “ thing fell so flat. She never commutes to believing she was secretly an omega, but also mentions her “secret” a lot. It just felt so manufactured. I’m intrigued enough to read part 2 and see how the author closes everything out, but this is not one I’ll recommend or ever come back to.
