Anthurium clarinervium is native to the cloud forests of Chiapas in southern Mexico, where it grows as a lithophyte and epiphyte on limestone karst outcrops at elevations between 750 and 1,150 metres. This is a cooler, more seasonal habitat than the lowland rainforest most aroids come from, which explains a few of its preferences in cultivation: it tolerates slightly lower temperatures than tropical Anthuriums, and it is naturally accustomed to excellent drainage, growing in thin, mineral-rich soil that dries between rains.
