The Garden Tower 2 gives you space for 50 individual plants, as well as a large vermicomposting column down the middle. This system utilizes your kitchen scraps to produce nutrient rich compost that is then made accessible to the roots of your flowers, herbs or vegetables.

The caster wheel kit allows you to easily move your tower around your porch, patio or any hard, relatively even, surface. When in operation, these units weigh ~220lbs.

The steel support structure positions the caster wheels beyond the center of the Garden Tower® 2 feet for a wider footprint to maintain the original stability of the Garden Tower® vertical container gardening and composting system.

The Garden Tower 2 is a great option for those looking to save space on a patio, balcony, store-front or even in a greenhouse. It's made from food-grade, USA-made HDPE (non-toxic, BPA & PVC free plastic) components, FDA-approved dye, and UV-protection antioxidant package for health, durability, and recyclability.

Using Your Garden Tower

The Garden Tower planter works on an aerobic (with air) composting principal, so light, fluffy soil is best. Issues can arise from over-compaction, either in the soil column or in the compost column. Straw, grass, leaves & coir are good bedding for worms and should periodically be added directly in the compost column to avoid compaction.

Start with at least 250-500 composting worms for the center compost tube. Add at least 25-50 earthworms into the soil column.

A general watering schedule during the growing season is 4-6 gallons of water every 2-3 days. That being said, this will vary for everyone, and we recommend watering with a container instead of a hose to avoid over-watering.

Every so often, once the column is full, you can empty some of the finished compost from the bottom. To do so, ensure the drawer has no water in it and pull the screen out half way to allow vermicompost to exit the bottom of the compost column, and fall into the drawer. You can use the finished compost in your gardens, and the liquid that drains down through the tower is also an ideal fertilizer.

What to Feed your Worms:

Most fruit and vegetable scraps, pulps from juicer
Cooked food
Tea leaves/bags and coffee grounds
Crushed/ground eggshells
Hair, vacuum cleaner dust, soiled paper, tissue, paper towels, shredded egg cartons
Shredded newspaper, cardboard, sawdust (untreated), wood ash
Lawn clippings in small quantities, weeds, clippings, prunings, dirt and leaves

What to Avoid or Limit:

Limit citrus and acidic fruit skin
Limit bread, pasta and other wheat based products
Avoid hard fruit pits
Avoid spice foods, onions, garlic and leeks
Avoid animal products such as meat, dairy, or fats
Avoid shiny paper
Do not feed rotten food to your worms

Taking Care of Your Worms

Worms are low maintenance and will be happy as long as they are fed, have enough moisture, and are kept between 40° and 80° F. Worms should be protected from extreme temperatures. The vertical tower planters can be used successfully both indoors and outdoors, and they are a great space-saver in a greenhouse!

You don't need to feed your worms every day – just add scraps as you have them. We recommend a generous handful or two of food every couple of days. Worms can survive up to 2 weeks without any new food. Worms reproduce inside the tower according to their space limitations. They will regulate their own population, so you never need to worry about overcrowding your tower.

It is very important that the Garden Tower compost is not overfed. Worms prefer to eat their food as it begins to decompose, but not if it has become slimy and smelly.

In Mid & Northern regions, overwintering is possible during milder winters. In a cold winter, we suggest that the center compost should be removed (with worms) and placed in a 1-foot deep hole in the ground outside of your dwelling (if accessible). Alternatively, you could empty the contents and worms into a indoor worm composting system.

Please note, installing the caster kit while a garden tower is loaded / filled with soil is inherently dangerous. Garden Towers are heavy/bulky and increasing the mobility of a tower creates potential risks in certain environments (rooftops, balconies, decks, porches etc).

Do not place caster wheels directly into the feet of the tower. The caster wheel kit is designed to properly support the base of the tower for longterm use of casters.

Brown skin approved!
Size: 6 Ounce (Pack of 1), Size: 6 Ounce (Pack of 1)
Does not leave a white cast, feels very light on the skin. Scanned on Yuka and was a 86/100 green zone! It’s so hard to find a sunscreen that isn’t trying to poison you, scanned all the sunscreen at Walmart and were rated a 1/100 through 6/100. Which brought me to Amazon. Thinksport has my vote on goodness and healthiness, would buy again!

My favorite... And I'm picky.
Size: 3 Ounce (Pack of 1)
I've become a little obsessed with sunscreen over the last past 5 years. I have olive skin and developed melasma after my first pregnancy. I learned the hard way that chemical sunscreens don't help if you have melasma - and they actually make the dark spots even worse. Also the active ingredients in chemical sunscreens (like Oxybenzone and Octinoxate) are absorbed by your skin, and may cause allergies, hormonal imbalance and be toxic overtime. After learning that, I started wearing only mineral sunscreen (active ingredient is zinc and/or titanium dioxide). These are not absorbed and works by creating a physical barrier that reflects the sun (some studies suggest that some nanoparticles of zinc may be absorbed by your skin, so to be really, really safe you should look for non-nano particles). After trying a few brands, I realized the sunscreens with only zinc in their formulas worked better than the blends with titanium dioxide, but this is just my personal preference I guess. And the higher the percentage of zinc, the better. Most pure mineral sunscreens out there are 10-ish % zinc, SPF 30, 40 min water resistant - which is ok. Thinksport goes beyond that: It's 20% non-nano zinc, SPF 50+, 80 min water resistant. It really can't get any better than that! The lotion is not extremely thick when compared to other sunscreens I've tried and I find it pretty easy to apply. As every zinc sunscreen, it does leave a little fine white cast, but honestly Thinksport is not bad at all! It smells nice, lightly citrusy - and the smell vanishes soon. And, it's not overpriced. Best I've tried so far.

Works but will Dry Out Your Skin
Size: 6 Ounce (Pack of 1)
I am a swim instructor at an outdoor pool and this stuff DOES work. I can apply it at the beginning of a 5 hour shift and while I have experienced light tanning it has protected against burning completely without reapplication. The white cast is significant though I don't mind it aesthetically, I know its there for protection . It does rub off on things though so consider yourself warned. Major Con: it is incredibly drying, and the soap needed to scrub it off is A LOT. That coupled with chlorine is a lot for my skin . Still on my sunscreen journey.

Protected Our Skin and Smells Good
Size: 6 Ounce (Pack of 1)
I love this stuff! My husband and I bought it as a last minute grab for our honeymoon and it was well worth it! I'm very sensitive to the sun AND to sunscreens, so I needed something with simple ingredients that would also protect my skin without breaking me out. This not only kept away the burning rash I get from the sun, but protected my husband and I from any sunburn at all. It worked not only in dry conditions, but it stayed on for hours after we swam in the ocean. We also liked the fact that it smelled herbal, almost like pizza/Italian seasoning. That didn't bother us because we both hate the smell of most sunscreens. If you have sensitive skin or are looking for a more natural product, I highly recommend this!

Great reef-safe, easy-to-apply sunscreen (comparison of three ThinkSport products)
Size: 6 Ounce (Pack of 1)
I will start by saying that I am used to traditional non-mineral sunscreens and tend to only buy physical/mineral-based sunscreens when I'm going to be in a tropical ocean and need something reef-safe, though more and more kids sunscreens are shifting to mineral-based. After quite a bit of research I settled on ThinkSport for my family's recent trip to Hawaii, and I'm very pleased with it. I brought and used three types of Thinksport sunscreen: Thinksport Kids lotion (yellow/orange and teal squeeze bottle), Thinksport adult lotion (Black, white, and orange squeeze bottle), and Thinksport adult spray (black, white and orange spray bottle). All protected us from sunburn and rubbed in to be invisible as long as skin was dry and free of visible hair (visible whiteness persisted around my husbands facial stubble and chest hair). The only difference between the kids lotion versus the adult lotion is scent--the kids version has a fruitier, more tropical but not-too-strong scent (possibly coconut and something else? it was hard to identify) that I found unobjectionable (though one if my kids wasn't a fan), and the adult lotion had a lighter, less sweet, more citrus-y scent (my son though maybe lime and mint, but I'm not sure that's accurate) that I LOVE. The adult spray had no discernible scent, so I suspect the kids spray might be fairly unscented as well. The easiest to apply by far was the spray--it sprays on white, but feels very light, rubs in easily, and becomes invisible quickly. I was a little worried about whether it could possibly be effective given how light and thin it felt, but it was! The lotions weren't thick for a lotion (but much thicker than the spray) and went on easily, but took more rubbing in to disappear than the spray (this is consistent with my experience with lotion vs spray in traditional sunscreens as well). Invisibility was harder to get after a second or third application or when skin was damp, but all-in-all I found all three Thinksport products to be superior to other mineral-based sunscreens I have tried in the past. In the future I'll probably buy the adult thinksport spray for my kids and husband (who all much prefer a spray-on sunscreen) and the adult thinksport lotion for myself (because I love the scent and don't mind rubbing it in).
