China Jade Self Pollinating & Burpless Cucumber Heirloom Vegetable Seeds
Cucumis sativus
Listing is for 1 packet of 15 seeds

This is an Asian variety of cucumber that tolerates hot summers and high humidity exceptionally well. What is very awesome about this particular variety is that every female flower is self pollinating (parthenocarpic). That means every female flower will set fruit making it perfect for growing in a green house or area lacking in pollinators. The plant produces both female and male flowers, which if cross pollinated will yield cucumbers with the usual seeds inside. If the female flower doesn't get cross pollinated, it will yield a seedless cucumber. These cucumbers are also burpless which means they have reduced levels of cucurbitacin. This reduces bitterness and reportedly the likelihood of burping.

It has a pretty high leaf disease tolerance. By the time the plant succumbs to leaf diseases such as powdery mildew, it has already produced tons of cucumbers. I don't spray with any chemicals and can grow organically because of this. The fruit itself on average is 7-8 inches long. Beautiful glossy green color with a light green/white interior. Pick them on the young side to avoid a seedy middle, for the best crunchy texture, and sweet flavor. On average produces harvestable cucumbers 2.5 months from transplanting into the garden.

Ideal Growing Conditions

Sun: Full Sun

Water: Keep soil consistenly moist but not waterlogged

Fertilizer: Cucumbers benefit from regular fertilizer. Use an all purpose organic granular fertilizer like Espoma Garden Tone, so you can fertilize in small amounts, about 1/4 cup every 7 to 10 days. You can easily burn plants if fertilizing this often with a synthetic fertilizer, thus why I recommend organic. Keeping nutrients consistent, makes the plant grow lots of new healthy green growth to outpace all the growth that is catching diseases.

When & How To Sow Seeds: For a spring crop: direct sow seeds after your last spring frost date. For a fall crop: direct sow seeds at the end of summer. Use square foot gardening guidelines to grow 2 cucumber plants per square foot. Or dig a shallow trench right under a vertical trellis structure, sprinkle in the seeds, and cover with about 1/2 inch of soil. You can sow cucumber seeds pretty densely. Keep the soil moist for better germination. If you have multiple rows, space them with 3-4FT in-between for better airflow. Or you can sow seeds indoors, 6-8 weeks before your target date of transplanting into the garden. Use a 4inch pot or a solo cup with holes cut out of the bottom for drainage. Fill with seed starting mix. Sow 2-3 seeds per container.

Germination: 7-14 days

Days To Maturity: 65-75 days after direct sowing the seed

How & When To Harvest: Harvest when cucumbers are still all green and plump, before they start turning yellow. Try to harvest before the cucumbers get over 8-10 inches long for the best flavor and texture.

Common Diseases: Cucumbers get a lot of leaf diseases caused by pathogens like molds, fungus spores, bacteria etc.... It is very common, so dont worry. Spray with 1 cup of hydrogen peroxide per gallon of water to clean and disinfect. Repeat every 5 days or so as a preventative, or until you notice the spread of the disease has stopped.

Common Pests: Critters like rabbits love to munch on newly germinated seedlings, so protection from small animals might be required. If you notice the leaves are chewed up and there are small black, green, or orange balls, worms/caterpillars are chewing up the plants. Spray with BT or spinosad to treat for the worms.

ACTUALLY heavy duty
Color: Brown, Size: 9 in - 75 count
These plates are actually better than I expected. I’ve used a lot of disposable plates that claim to be “heavy duty” and then immediately start bending the second you put real food on them, but these feel sturdier than the average cheap paper plate. The 9-inch size is a good everyday size too, big enough for a normal meal without feeling tiny, and I like the natural brown color because it looks a little nicer and less flimsy than plain white party plates. For cookouts, birthdays, quick dinners, or anything where I just do not want extra dishes, these have been really convenient. What I like most is that they feel substantial without being overly thick or bulky. They hold up better than the thin paper plates that get soggy fast, and that matters a lot when there’s anything heavier or messier on them. I also like having a bigger pack on hand because disposable plates are one of those things that disappear faster than you think, especially with kids, parties, or just busy weeks. The compostable part is a nice bonus, but honestly what matters most to me is that they actually do the job and don’t feel like they’re going to fold in half in my hand.

Great Value and Very Durable Plates
Color: Brown, Size: 10 in - 75 count
These plates are a great value for the price considering the quantity and the quality you get. Getting 75 plates at this price point is already a win, but the durability makes them even better. They’re biodegradable, which is a nice bonus, and they’re definitely not flimsy. These plates are stiff and sturdy — I can load them up with a pretty heavy plate of food and they still hold up without bending. They also do really well in the microwave, which makes them even more convenient for everyday use or parties. Overall, a really solid disposable plate option that’s durable, eco-friendly, and a great value.

A bit iffy on these plates
Color: Brown, Size: 9 in - 75 count, Color: Brown, Size: 9 in - 75 count
These plates are ok, but certainly not the best I've found. On the positive side, they are what I'd consider "Lunch Size" an are somewhat sturdy. They'll hold a sandwich and chips with little effort so, as a plate, they do... plate. Where I am a bit hesitant is in their molding an construction. You can see in my photos that there is significant staining/watermarking on the plates from the manufacturing process. This could be simply from the way the wet pulp was extruded and formed, but it honestly gives me a bit of the ick. Not that it's particularly gross, but it does make me wonder how sanitary the plates are or what binders might be leeching into my food. In my last photo, you can see a comparison to a compostable plate that I really like. The finish is cleaner and the mold included an inner ridge which gives the plate more stability - making it less likely to flex under weight. Both are sugar cane fiber plates and my preferred plate is a few dollars more expensive for a comparable pack, but the clean appearance and extra rigidity make it worth the added spend in my opinion. Ranking these 3-stars might lead some to think they're bad - and to be clear, I don't think they are. They're just adequate. If you're looking to save a few bucks on a compostable plate, these WILL get the job done. I would just shy away from using them with wet or acidic foods since they don't boast the highest quality of manufacture.

Strong Eco Friendly Plates But Not Great For Hot Food
Color: Brown, Size: 9 in - 75 count
I picked these up because I wanted something more environmentally friendly than the usual plastic or paper stuff. They are made from bamboo and bagasse, and you get a good amount in the pack for the price. For dry stuff like snacks or sandwiches, they are super sturdy and do not bend at all when you pick them up. However, they do not hold up very well when you put hot or wet food on them. Even though they are supposed to be heavy duty, I noticed they can get a little soft if the food is really steaming. They are still perfect for a quick lunch or a party where you want an easy cleanup, but you might want to double them up if you are serving something heavy and hot. The plates are big, and you get quite a bit, making it a really good value overall.

Heavy duty paper plates
Color: Brown, Size: 10 in - 75 count
These disposable plates are amazing. They're large enough to hold an entire Thanksgiving meal. They're sturdy and strong, and won't buckle even when supporting quite a lot of weight. They don't get soggy even when I deliberately poured water in them. The sides are built up to keep food from falling off the plate. These are everything you'd need in a disposable plate, and they're biodegradable, too! These are ideal for barbeques or outdoor entertaining, or even for everyday use in the kitchen.
