Meet the Golden Pothos: Easy‑Care Variegated Indoor Vine
The Golden Pothos (Epipremnum aureum), also called Devil’s Ivy or Money Plant, is the quintessential beginner‑friendly houseplant. Its glossy, heart‑shaped leaves feature bold golden variegation that brightens any room. Adaptable to bright or low light and nearly indestructible, Golden Pothos purifies indoor air, grows rapidly, and bounces back from occasional neglect—ideal for homes, offices, and dorms alike.
Golden Pothos Plant Profile
- Botanical Name: Epipremnum aureum
- Common Names: Golden Pothos, Devil’s Ivy, Money Plant, Ceylon Creeper
- Family: Araceae
- Origin: Tropical forests of Southeast Asia
- Growth Habit: Fast‑growing vine; can trail or climb a moss pole
- Leaf Color: Deep green with bright golden variegation
Essential Care Guide
- Light: Thrives in bright, indirect light for vivid variegation; tolerates low light but may revert to solid green.
- Water: Water when the top 1–2″ of soil is dry; avoid waterlogged soil to prevent root rot.
- Humidity: Prefers 40–60%; mist occasionally or use a pebble tray in dry environments.
- Temperature: 65–85°F (18–29°C); keep away from drafts below 60°F (15°C).
- Soil & Fertilizer: Use a well‑draining indoor potting mix; feed monthly during spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertilizer.
- Propagation: Easily rooted via stem cuttings in water or soil within 2–4 weeks.
- Pruning: Trim leggy vines or yellowed leaves to encourage bushier growth.
- Pests & Toxicity: Watch for spider mites and mealybugs; toxic if ingested—keep out of reach of pets and children.
Why You’ll Love Golden Pothos
- Air‑Purifying Power: Removes indoor pollutants like formaldehyde and benzene.
