Medium red clover (Trifolium pratense) is a  perennial legume commonly used for forage, soil improvement, and wildlife food plots. It provides high-protein forage for deer, rabbits, and other wildlife while also serving as a nitrogen-fixing cover crop to improve soil health. Inoculated with a NOP compliant seed treatment for maximum germination.

Benefits for Wildlife

High-protein forage for deer, turkey, and pollinators.
Nitrogen-fixing properties enhance soil fertility.
Attracts bees and beneficial insects as a strong nectar source.
Regrows after grazing or mowing, providing continuous forage.

Planting Guidelines for Medium Red Clover

  • Planting Times:

    • Spring (March–May) – Best for establishing a strong stand.
    • Fall (August–October) – Allows early root development before winter.
    • Frost Seeding (January–March) – Can be broadcast over frozen ground for natural soil incorporation.
  • Seeding Depth:

    • ¼ to ½ inch deep – Shallow planting is crucial for germination.
  • Seeding Rates:

    • Drilled: 8–12 lbs per acre in a well-prepared seedbed.
    • Broadcast: 12–15 lbs per acre, ensuring good soil contact.
  • Days to Maturity:

    • 60–90 days for full establishment, with peak production in the second year.
  • Drought Tolerance:

    • Moderate – Can withstand short dry periods but performs best with adequate moisture.
  • Saturated Soil Tolerance:

    • Moderate – Tolerates temporary wet conditions but not prolonged flooding.
  • Shade Tolerance:

    • Moderate – Prefers full sun but grows in partial shade.

Fertilization Guidelines for Medium Red Clover

  • Soil pH: 6.0–7.0 is ideal for maximum nitrogen fixation and productivity.
  • Nitrogen (N):
    • Minimal nitrogen required due to its nitrogen-fixing ability.
  • Phosphorus (P) & Potassium (K):
    • Apply 30–60 lbs P₂O₅ and 40–80 lbs K₂O per acre based on soil tests.
  • Lime Application:
    • If soil pH is below 6.0, apply lime to adjust acidity before planting.

Fertilization Timing:

  • Apply phosphorus and potassium at planting and annually based on soil tests.
  • Avoid excessive nitrogen, as it reduces the clover’s nitrogen-fixing benefits.

Herbicide Use for Medium Red Clover

  • Weed Management:
    • Effective weed control is critical during establishment to reduce competition.
  • Pre-emergence Herbicides:
    • Metribuzin – Provides early broadleaf weed control.
    • Pendimethalin (Prowl H₂O) – Controls annual grasses without harming clover.
  • Post-emergence Herbicides:
    • Clethodim (Select Max) – Controls unwanted grasses without harming clover.
    • 2,4-DB (Butyrac 200) – Controls broadleaf weeds with minimal clover impact.
    • Imazethapyr (Pursuit) – Can be used for selective weed control.

Key Considerations:

  • Mowing helps suppress weeds in early growth stages.
  • No-till planting into existing residue can reduce weed pressure.
  • Avoid using 2,4-D, as it may harm red clover stands.

I love this and so does my dog
I got one of these, to try out on my super chewer pit mix, back in early April, it's now the end of June and she's still chewing it every day, almost all day! It has gotten smaller as she's chewed it but it's not broken or splintered or hurt her teeth! Just make sure to get the right size for the dog. Small dogs maybe the smaller ones but a big girl like mine needs the large or bigger. Idk if she gives a darn about the taste or smell of it but she loves chewing on it, and hasn't felt the need to chew my shoes or wtfe since she got this. I like it so much I got more for my friend who also has a few super chewers and she gives good reports on them too. Her chewer dogs have stopped destroying her house in favor of these chews. Just try not to step on them in the dark, cause that s#!t hurts, BAD! Lol especially if you step on the chewed parts, where its rougher. The attached Pic is showing how badly she's chewed it in almost 4 months! The chewing calms her anxiety and gives her something to focus on when she's too excited, especially late at night. I will be getting more of these for her. even thinking about trying other shapes to see if they hold up as well as the wishbone shape does. She's an adult dog so idk if these would be OK for puppies, as it might Crack their teeth.

My Dog's Favorite Bone! No staining or smells on carpet. AWESOME COMPANY! Will Support You--RISK FREE PURCHASE!
Benebone rocks! It is pricey for sure, but these are superior to nylabones in my opinion. The flavor is there that you can smell when you sniff the actual toy, but it does not stain or make the carpet smell. It will slowly wear down, but it does not result in sharp edges. Does keep my puppy's attention and does withstand her chewing. She chews on this toy every day! NOTE: I did have a problem with a previous order from Benebone. The bone broke almost immediately. The company immediately contacted me and sent me TWO replacements. The replacements lasted for a long time, and neither replacement broke like the first one; I think I just got a bad one with an air bubble or other defect. I would recommend watching your puppy/dog very carefully when you first give this toy. If it holds up well after about an hour or two of chewing, it will be just fine and you'll get many hours from it (my dog must have over 10 hours of just chewing on it). If it breaks, pull it away and contact the company! They were receptive and extremely supportive! When you have a dog you really love and is a part of the family, you really want a company that supports you both. Benebone is that company. I have recommended this bone to make co-workers and friends (I think I have had approximately 7 or 8 people buy this bone because of me), and they have all purchased the bone and it has been a HUGE hit success. So it is risk free! Buy this bone for your pup or bone and see how it goes! If you don't like it or your pup doesn't use it, just contact the company and see what they will do for you.

Long lasting and safer alternative to sticks
Color: Dogwood & Calming, Size: Medium
These are great, very durable, and have lasted a very long time. Much safer for my dogs than the random sticks they find in the yard. They do get shorter with chewing eventually, but they don't break off in little chunks like I've seen with some nylon chews, and they don't splinter like wood. Medium size works well for both my 16 lb Cavalier and my 60 lb Pyrenees/Golden mix. They're both moderate-to-aggressive chewers, though size obviously affects how much damage they can do. I wish you could buy the hemp chew separately because that one is very much a favorite in my house, so after 2 years and 2 purchases, I have barely any left of the remaining hemp chew, but still 2 of the dogwood chews that neither dog is as interested in anymore. I'd love to buy a couple more of just the hemp one.

Your dog will thank you.
Color: Dogwood & Fresh Breath, Size: Large
My dogs loves to chew on these. They make a small mess but not as bad as other chews. They are food for keeping teeth clean.
