Origin
Cymbidium Sarah Jean is a well-known hybrid from Australia, specially developed to combine compact plants with richly hanging flower clusters. The clone "Ice Cascade" has thereby become the most iconic form, praised for its pure white flowers and graceful arching flower branches.
Features
The plant remains relatively compact, but during flowering it produces long, gracefully arching flower branches dotted with medium-sized flowers. The flowers are pure white to ivory, sometimes with a hint of yellow in the throat, and have an elegant, waxy texture. In bloom, the plant resembles a waterfall of snow-like flowers, making it a spectacular sight. The foliage is narrow and fresh green, which enhances the bright white flowers.
Care
Light
Lots of bright light is needed. Cymbidiums tolerate more sun than most orchids and do well outdoors in summer, if protected from the hottest afternoon sun.
Temperature
15-25 °C during the day, with cooler nights in late summer and autumn (10-15 °C) to encourage flowering.
Substrate
A firm, airy mixture of medium coarse Cymbidium-mix supports root growth.
Humidity
A humidity of 50-70% is desired, combined with adequate ventilation.
Nutrition
Fertilize regularly during the growing period: nitrogen-rich in spring, phosphorus-rich in late summer to encourage flowering.
Watering
Give only demineralized water. Keep the substrate moist during active growth, but reduce watering as nights get colder and flowering buds form.
