Aglaonema 'Lipstick Green'

Aglaonema 'Lipstick Green' is a compact Chinese evergreen with slim green leaves, lighter leaf edges and pale petioles. The plant forms a small upright crown, with the stems and leaf bases adding brightness below the blades.

Pointed, smooth leaves sit close enough to create a dense young plant. As new basal shoots develop, the crown becomes fuller while the overall shape stays neat indoors.

Aglaonema 'Lipstick Green' green-leaf notes

  • Slim green leaves with lighter edging
  • Pale petioles that brighten the base of the crown
  • Compact growth habit for smaller indoor pots
  • Pointed, smooth foliage with an upright spread
  • Warm-room Aglaonema for filtered light and even moisture

Pale petioles, slim leaves and compact growth

Aglaonema 'Lipstick Green' is a cultivated Aglaonema selected for its narrow leaf shape, green blades and light-toned stems. It grows from short stems and side shoots, gradually filling the pot from the base.

The foliage sits on firm petioles and forms a layered crown as the plant matures. The narrow leaves give young plants a crisp outline.

Care points for Aglaonema 'Lipstick Green'

  • Light: Give bright filtered to medium indirect light. Direct midday sun can scorch the lighter leaf edges.
  • Watering: Water when the upper 2–3 cm of mix dry. Keep the root zone evenly moist, then allow a short drying phase before the next watering.
  • Substrate: Use an airy indoor mix with coco coir, perlite and small bark pieces. A compact young plant needs drainage around the lower stems.
  • Drainage: Keep the crown above the substrate surface and avoid water standing in the cover pot after watering.
  • Temperature: Maintain 18–27 °C. Cold marks can appear after exposure to draughts, cold floors or winter windowsills.
  • Humidity: Moderate indoor humidity is suitable. Very dry air can make new tips open tightly.
  • Feeding: Feed at low strength every 4–6 weeks in spring and summer. Narrow leaves can show salt stress as brown margins.
  • Repotting: Repot once roots circle the pot or watering becomes difficult to manage. Use only a slightly larger container.
  • Grooming: Cut ageing leaves at the base and clean the leaf surface gently with a damp cloth.
  • Propagation: Divide rooted shoots when the plant has developed several crowns.

Crown, edge and growth checks

  • Soft crown base: Check for waterlogged substrate, poor drainage or a pot that is too large for the root system.
  • Brown leaf edges: Usually linked to salts, dry intervals or heat near glass. Flush the substrate and move the plant to steadier conditions.
  • Pale scorch marks: Strong sun or concentrated window heat can mark the leaf surface. Shift the plant to filtered light.
  • Slow new growth: Cool roots or very low light can stall the crown. Improve warmth first, then increase ambient light gradually.

Can Bree lead her team to victory?
Format: Hardcover
Swim Team by Johnnie Christmas is a graphic novel that follows Bree, a city kid from New York who moves to Florida due to her dad's new job. Excited to join math puzzles on her first day at her new school, Bree instead finds herself being assigned to swim 101, but there is just one problem: Bree can't swim. Faced with potentially failing the class, Bree's elderly neighbor Etta, who was once a swim team captain, offers to teach her. With Etta’s training and a lot of hard work, Bree suddenly finds herself on the school's failing swim team. With her school considering selling the land the pool resides on, Bree is determined to lead her team to victory at the state championship and save the pool. This book touches on topics such as anxiety, racism, family dynamics, sports, and friendship. I found the honest exploration provided a powerful lesson of how our circumstances shape us but don't control us. As a former swim team captain myself, I really resonated with this book: I felt it perfectly captured the swim team dynamic, and the high-action illustrations of swim team meets were breath-taking. Personally, I found this book to be wonderfully nostalgic; I could almost smell the chlorine and feel the diving block beneath my feet as I read it. Overall, I think Swim Team would be a major hit in elementary and middle school libraries. @TheHeterogeneousReader

A decent read, it wrestles a bit with a couple of different topics of anxiety, racism, family dynamics, sports, and friendship in fits and bursts. I guess my main critique was it felt a bit shallow (no pun intended) with most issues resolved rather quickly and easily once characters put their minds to it. The Hollyhoke's team also seemed to be pretty toxic making it a wonder why someone would want to go there other than that it's wealthy.
