For zones 3-9 Violet's are best started in early fall by sowing into your garden and then topping with a light dusting of screened peat as they need light to germinate.

You can also direct sow these in your garden in spring after your last frost. Mix your packet of seeds with 2 cups of screened peat and spread in you garden. Do not top with additional material. For zones 7-9 Violets can be sensitive to later summer heat so it's best to sow them in an area that gets afternoon shade.
