FAQ

How to are straw bales used for erosion control?

Straw bales can be used in erosion control by creating an environmentally friendly temporary barrier that helps slow down the flow of water and prevent soil erosion. They are most commonly used for controlling erosion on slopes, hillsides, and other areas where soil is prone to washing away.

Use straw bales for slopes that have sandy or loamy soils, lower water flow, and moderate slopes, between 2:1 and 4:1

Which is cheaper, hay or straw bales?

Straw bales are generally cheaper than hay bales. That’s because straw bales are made from leftover stalks after the grain harvest, thus it’s a byproduct of the grain crops. Hay bales on the other hand are made from dried and harvested grasses, which requires more resources, plus they are grown for a specific use namely animal feed.

What is straw bale used for?

Straw Bales have many uses:

  • Construction - Building Material
  • Gardening
  • Landscaping - Erosion Control
  • Mulch
  • Decorations

How long can you keep a bale of straw?

Straw bales can last several years if stored correctly. Make sure to store your straw bales in a well ventilated area, away from pests, and off the ground, so moisture doesn’t seep in from the bottom. If you can, rotate your bales so they all get good exposure to air and sunlight.

Note if you use straw bales for erosion control, site conditions will have a large impact on lifespan.

What vegetables can you plant in straw bales?

You can grow most vegetables in a straw bale vegetable garden (tomatoes, carrots, etc). Here’s a list of types of vegetables that would not be ideal to grow in a straw bale:

  • Root vegetables like beets and potatoes
  • Large vegetable like pumpkins, watermelons
  • Vegetable that need additional support like corn
  • Vegetables that prefer acidic soil, such as blueberries

Utopia bedding is GREAT
Color: 15 - Sage Green, Size: King
I had never heard of Utopia before I suddenly needed to buy bedding for my adult autistic son. He has sensory issues so shopping for anything that touches his body is a bit of a nightmare. I took a gamble on these sheets but it paid off big time! He says they are the most comfortable sheets he has ever slept on and that he doesn't overheat sleeping in them. What I liked about them is that the pockets were deep enough that it fit on his oversized plush mattress easily. I love the color and the ones I bought were very true to the picture. These are soft, comfy, they look nice and they are affordable. I liked this brand so much that I went ahead and got pillows and a comforter from them as well. Its is great for my son and I am very pleased to have found a fabric he tolerates.

It’s great and comfy
Color: 17 - Emerald Green, Size: Full
It extremely soft and the all around elastic/ deep pocket are great because my mattress is tall and I roll around like a rotisserie chicken at night, but the sheets don’t come off. It’s fantastic and I’m sure to get more colors of the sheet

For soft, sensually awesome sheets- LOOK no more!
Color: 15 - Sage Green, Size: Full
Would give 10 stars if possible! (And this is a nonpaid for review!) When I received the sheets, instantly I knew that I had the right ones, had bought a down comforter close in color as well.. these sheets? The material is strong yet, soft and warm. So so especially soft, and when I make up the bed, ahhh! plus the corners on the fitted, such a cinch to pull over the mattress, even with a topper on the bed! Feels almost spa-like <3 Very comfy, so far in the winter and in 85 degree heat! Soft and easy peasy to care for, too. Washing is a breeze, dry and fold. So far the only thing I can smell on these sheets is my wonderful detergent! Will purchase again. And possibly, again! Thank you!!

Color: 09 - Brown, Size: King, Color: 09 - Brown, Size: King
Color is exactly as advertised. Feels very soft, fits perfectly. No weird odor and not too warm 🥵. Only downfall I can tell is it seems a bit thin.

Very thin. You get what you pay for.
Color: 01 - White, Size: Queen
You get what you pay for. I first noticed the softness which was great. The quality is very thin. They are cool which is great. I have not washed them yet. I would suggest washing them on cool and gentle by themselves. And because they are so thin I would fluff dry for an hour if you have that setting. The two things that damages clothes and sheets, etc. are if you have an agitator in your washer, those ruin clothes and the heat you choose for the fabric you’re drying I always wash my clothes on cold. I do not have an agitator anymore and on delicate and thin fabrics, I use fluff dry. It is cool, but it will dry, especially if it is thin and I’ve had to dry my fine delicates a little bit longer on fluff that way they don’t shrink because the shrinking comes in from the heat from the dryer so keep that in mind another good thing to remember if you got white sheets like I did is that when you use your detergent add a little bit of borax or laundry booster and they will help get them clean and sparkly white. I am on the fence about whether I would recommend this or not if you’re tight on money and you take good care of them I would recommend that you get them. I’m a linen freak and I buy mostly expensive sheets and I thought I would try this out so that’s where I’m at.
