We have had it in orchid bark mix, or suspended from wire, or mounted with glue on our racks and no matter what, somnians end up blooming and producing many offsets on its bloom spike. It is one of Nathans (owner of Air Plant Hub) favorite air plants. During winter these are a more green color, but if exposed to regular high light these turn a brilliant purple red

We have had it in orchid bark mix, or suspended from wire, or mounted with glue on our racks and no matter what, somnians end up blooming and producing many offsets on its bloom spike. It is one of Nathan’s (owner of Air Plant Hub) favorite air plants. During winter these are a more green color, but if exposed to regular high light these turn a brilliant purple/red color. 

These can grow to be over a foot wide. They hold a beautiful contrasting purple and green color year round when exposed to bright light. Even though Somnians look more like a typical bromeliad, the care for them is the same as for other Tillandsia. Many people have found success potting these in a fast draining media like orchid bark mix, but it is entirely up to you. These have a tendency to have some minor leaf imperfections but nothing that takes away from the overall beauty of the plant.
