Frequently Asked Questions
It’s a popular ornamental grass often sold as maiden grass, valued for its fine, arching foliage and showy plumes. This selection is Miscanthus sinensis 'Gracillimus', a classic silver grass plant used for screens, borders, and specimen planting. It performs best with plenty of sun and well-drained soil.
Typical maiden grass height is about 4–6 feet tall and 4–6 feet wide at maturity in good conditions. In bloom, flower plumes can rise higher above the foliage. Give it enough space so the clump can develop its full, fountain-like form.
Plant in full sun and water regularly until established, then water occasionally, increasing during extreme heat. Cut the clump back hard in late winter or early spring before new growth starts to keep Miscanthus sinensis looking tidy. Well-drained soil helps prevent stress, and mature plants are generally low-maintenance once settled.
