The Sempervivum ‘Chick Charms Trio’ is a vibrant, low-maintenance succulent collection that includes three different Sempervivum, opens in a new tab varieties, each selected for their bold colors, unique textures, and seasonal interest. Each trio is hand-picked from a rotating assortment of Chick Charms cultivars, offering you a surprise mix of shapes and hues that shift with the seasons. Whether you’re new to succulents or a collector looking to diversify your arrangement, this trio makes a beautiful and hardy addition to any space.
Each Sempervivum plant in the trio showcases the signature rosette form that Sempervivums are known for—tight spirals of fleshy leaves that come in a range of colors like lime green, burgundy, rose, silvery blue, or even bi-color blends. These plants are cold-hardy, drought-tolerant, and deer-resistant, making them well-suited for both outdoor rock gardens and indoor containers. Depending on the variety included, your plants may change color throughout the year, adding dynamic beauty even in the cooler months.
Sempervivums are often called “Hens and Chicks” due to their clumping growth habit. Each “hen” produces baby “chicks” that cluster around the base, creating a lush carpet of rosettes over time. Most varieties included in the Chick Charms line remain compact, growing 5 inches tall and 6 inches wide, but their offsets can fill out larger containers or garden spaces quickly, especially in sunny spots.
How to Care for Sempervivum Chick Charms, opens in a new tab
- Soil: The Sempervivum plants thrive in well-draining succulent soil.
- Water: They require infrequent watering—let the soil dry out completely between waterings to prevent rot.
- Fertilizer: No fertilizer is necessary, but a light feeding in spring can encourage vibrant growth.
- Pruning: Dead leaves at the base can be gently removed to keep the rosettes tidy.
- Outdoor temperature & light: Plant them in full sun to partial shade to get the richest coloration. Sempervivums are extremely cold-hardy and do well outdoors year-round in USDA Zones 3–9.
- Indoor temperature & light: They prefer bright light, ideally placed near a sunny window or under grow lights. Provide at least 4–6 hours of direct or bright light daily. These plants are resilient to temperature swings and can tolerate frost and snow, going dormant in colder months and bouncing back in spring.
According to ASPCA, the Sempervivums are non-toxic to pets and humans, making them a safe choice for households with curious animals. The beauty of the Chick Charms Trio is that no two sets are exactly the same, allowing you to build a colorful, ever-changing succulent garden with ease. Their clumping habit also makes them perfect for gifting—simply divide a few chicks and share them with friends!
