E. sinica stems can be brewed into a tea known as Mormon tea. The tea has a stimulant effect similar to caffeine without containing any caffeine. Ephedra sinica seeds should germinate best in a mix of about 50% sand and 50/light well draining potting or succulent/cactus mix. Sprinkle seeds onto the surface of your soil/sand mix and cover with about 1/4" with your soil mix..  Keep pots evenly moist, but not soaking wet, and keep around 70-80°F for best results.  Seeds should germinate within 10 to 30 days. After seedlings emerge, watering should be reduced as the plant establishes itself.  Even with optimal conditions, germination may be slow and sporadic.
