Delosperma Echinatum "Gherkin Plant" is a charming succulent with surprising, cylindrical leaves that resemble small gherkins. This compact succulent adds a playful touch to any room and is ideal for those with little plant experience. Its low-maintenance nature makes it perfect for busy starter plants or as a focal point on your windowsill. Feel free to combine it with other easy-care plants like the ZZ plant or a Sansevieria Zeylanica for a trendy green corner.

How to care for a Delosperma Echinatum "Gherkin Plant"

Watering Delosperma Echinatum "Gherkin Plant"

Delosperma Echinatum "Gherkin Plant" stores water in its thick leaves, making it drought-tolerant. Allow the potting mix to dry completely between waterings, then water generously until it drains from the drainage holes. As with a yucca , it's important not to allow water to pool at the bottom of the pot to prevent root rot.

Light for Delosperma Echinatum "Gherkin Plant"

This succulent enjoys plenty of direct to filtered sunlight and thrives on a bright windowsill. If possible, place it near a south- or west-facing window for optimal growth and a compact shape. Too little light can cause it to become elongated and floppy, similar to what you see with a Monstera Minima .

Common problems with Delosperma Echinatum "Gherkin Plant"

Yellow leaves

Yellow discoloration often indicates overwatering or poor drainage. Check that you're using potting soil from our Potting Soil and Accessories collection and that the pot has a good drainage hole. Adjust your watering frequency and ensure the top layer of soil is completely dry before watering again.

Plant is dripping

Is your "Gherkin Plant" dripping? It's probably just been watered, and excess moisture is still escaping through the stomata. This is usually harmless in succulents, as long as it doesn't happen constantly. Let the soil dry out thoroughly and place it in a slightly airier location, such as with an Asplenium Parvati , to minimize moisture.

Pests

White fluff or sticky residue indicates mealybugs or spider mites. Remove affected parts and carefully spray your plant with an organic insecticide or use our sticky traps against fungus gnats . Continue checking regularly, just as you would with a Pothos pictus .

Roots emerge from the bottom of the pot

When the roots grow out of the drainage holes, it's time to repot. Choose a pot one size larger and use fresh, airy potting soil. This will give your Delosperma Echinatum sufficient space again, similar to caring for an Alocasia Zebrina .

Brown edges on the leaves

Brown edges often result from too much direct sunlight or low humidity. Move your cucumber plant slightly away from the hottest window and, if necessary, increase the humidity with a plant mister or humidifier. Similar to the care tips for Aglaonema Silver Bay , this will only benefit your plant.

This is the one for my dog, (and maybe yours)
Size: Medium (23.60")
Great dog toy! Got the larger size— less accidental hand bites that way. It’s our second one, but the pup is a strong chewer so no disappointments with the product at all. Many breeds would not do what mine did to the rope. I love that it’s natural cotton. The longer version that I ordered comes with 3 knots, including one near each end— great— and one in the middle, which I don’t like or need. It’s a tad difficult to untie the central knot, but it’s possible with a screw driver or awl, and then it’s a perfect toy.

Does not fray.
Size: Medium (23.60")
My 70# poodle loves playing with it. She throws it in the air and catches it and brings it to me and I throw it or I tug with her. It’s very sturdy.

Rope chew
Size: Medium (23.60")
It’s perfect for an over aggressive dog chewer, especially a puppy has worked phenomenally. Well he has not chewed through it, which is amazing. We’ll get it again, but a bigger one as he grows.
