Maranta leuconeura 'Lemon Lime'

Maranta leuconeura 'Lemon Lime' is a bright green prayer plant with lime to yellow-green veins over deeper green leaves. It keeps the classic Maranta movement, with leaves that sit open in daylight and lift as light levels fall. The pattern stays green-toned, with no red venation.

This cultivar grows from shallow rhizomes into a low, spreading plant. It usually stays compact in height while gradually widening with new stems and leaves. The soft leaf surface, fine roots, and moisture-sensitive growth need steady watering, warm conditions, and a pot size that does not hold excess water around the roots.

Lime-green veins on Maranta leuconeura Lemon Lime

  • Leaf colour: Deep green blades with lime-green to yellow-green venation.
  • Central pattern: Yellowish-green striping and a lighter central area define the bright leaf pattern.
  • Growth habit: Low, clump-forming, and spreading from shallow rhizomes.
  • Movement: Leaves fold upward at night and relax again by day.
  • Pot shape: Wider pots give the creeping stems room to fill outward as the plant matures.

Brazilian forest conditions for Maranta leuconeura Lemon Lime

Maranta leuconeura comes from wet tropical habitats in Brazil, where filtered light and organic, moisture-retentive ground layers shape its low growth. Indoors, 'Lemon Lime' needs bright indirect light, stable root moisture, warm temperatures, and an airy substrate.

Under bright indirect light, new leaves expand cleanly, while strong direct sun can mark the thin leaf surface. The plant expands by producing new leaves from basal and creeping growth points. Mature stems can loosen and trail when the pot fills, and trimmed sections with nodes can be rooted during active growth.

Care for Maranta leuconeura Lemon Lime

  • Light: Give bright indirect light or gentle filtered morning light. Avoid strong midday sun on the leaves.
  • Watering: Keep the substrate lightly and evenly moist, watering when roughly the top 20–35% has dried.
  • Water quality: Use rainwater, filtered water, or low-mineral water where possible, especially in areas with hard tap water.
  • Substrate: Use a moisture-retentive but aerated mix with coco coir, fine bark, perlite, and a small organic component.
  • Drainage: Use a pot with drainage and avoid compacted lower substrate, as fine Maranta roots need moisture and oxygen at the same time.
  • Humidity: Keep humidity around 50–60% for clean leaf expansion and fewer dry tips.
  • Temperature: Grow warm at 18–27°C and avoid cold surfaces below the pot, cold draughts, and wet substrate below about 15°C.
  • Feeding: Feed at low strength during active growth. Flush the substrate occasionally if fertilizer salts build up.
  • Repotting: Repot only when the roots have filled the current pot, moving up by one pot size.
  • Propagation: Propagate by division of rooted sections or by stem cuttings with nodes, kept warm and evenly moist while new roots form.
  • Mineral substrates: In semi-hydro or inert substrates, keep moisture steady, maintain warmth, and flush regularly to prevent mineral buildup around the fine roots.
  • Trimming: Remove yellow leaves and trim long stems above a node to encourage a denser pot.
  • Placement: Keep it away from hot glass, radiators, cold draughts, and exposed shelves where the soft leaves dry too quickly.
  • Growth rate: This Maranta usually spreads at a moderate pace in warmth and steady humidity, with slower side growth in cool or dry conditions.

Stress signs on Maranta leuconeura Lemon Lime leaves

  • Brown leaf tips: Check humidity, water quality, fertilizer strength, and repeated dry spells.
  • Yellowing leaves: Check for overwatering, poor drainage, compacted substrate, or cold wet roots.
  • Root rot risk: Soft stems, sour-smelling substrate, and collapsing lower growth point to wet roots and low oxygen around the rhizomes.
  • Faded leaf colour: Move the plant away from direct sun and check that new leaves are expanding under steady indirect light.
  • Curled leaves: Check substrate moisture first, then temperature and air dryness.
  • Leaf spots: Remove marked leaves if needed, keep the foliage from staying wet for long periods, and improve airflow around dense pots.
  • Pests: Check for spider mites, thrips, mealybugs, and scale-like pests around stems and leaf undersides. Fine webbing, pale speckling, sticky residue, or white clusters signal pests that can spread quickly through dry, crowded plant groups.

Pet-friendly handling for Maranta leuconeura Lemon Lime

Maranta leuconeura 'Lemon Lime' is generally regarded as pet-friendly and is not treated like calcium-oxalate aroids. Repeated chewing can damage the soft leaves and may upset a pet’s stomach, so keep it out of reach of animals that nibble plants.

The name behind Maranta leuconeura Lemon Lime

Maranta leuconeura É.Morren is an accepted species in Marantaceae and was published in 1874. The genus name Maranta honours Bartolomeo Maranta, a 16th-century Italian physician and botanist. The species epithet leuconeura refers to pale or white veining, reflected here in a lime-green vein network rather than red venation.

Perfect Sofa-Side Charging Hub
Size: 5FT, Color: White 2prong, Size: 5FT, Color: White 2prong
I picked this power strip mainly to use next to my sofa, where I usually charge my tablet, phone, and laptop while relaxing in the evening. Having 11 AC outlets and multiple USB ports in one place has made that corner much more organized, and I no longer have chargers scattered everywhere. The layout is well thought out. Larger plugs don't block neighboring outlets, and the flat angled plug fits nicely behind furniture. The 5-foot cord gives enough flexibility to position the strip where it's most convenient. I also like having both USB-A and USB-C ports available for smaller devices. For phones, tablets, earbuds, and similar electronics, the built-in USB ports have been very useful. For my everyday use, charging personal devices and powering small electronics, the unit has performed as expected. The overload protection switch and built-in safety features provide additional peace of mind. Overall, this has been a practical solution for adding more outlets to an older two-prong receptacle while keeping my charging area tidy and easy to access.

Major Safety Red Flag! 3 Prong Outlets, 2 Prong Plug, This Does Not Provide A Grounded Connection!
Size: 5FT, Color: White 2prong, Size: 5FT, Color: White 2prong
This power strip has a compact design, a convenient outlet layout, and USB ports, so on the surface it looks useful. The patented three-row layout is clever for spacing the outlets, but that only applies to how the outlets are positioned. It does not change how the strip is actually powered or protected. The problem is the safety design. It has 11 three-prong outlets, but the wall plug itself is only two-prong. Without a ground prong, it is not grounded. The two flat prongs are hot and neutral only, so this does not provide the grounded protection that the three-prong outlets appear to suggest. That also makes the surge protection claims highly questionable to me. A real grounded surge protector should have a grounding path for excess surge energy. With only a two-prong plug, I would not trust this to provide the kind of surge protection people generally expect when plugging in electronics or grounded devices. The manual mentions surge protection, ground protection, short-circuit protection, over-current protection, over-voltage protection, over-heat protection, and UL 1363 safety standards, but I could not find any visible UL, ETL, or similar safety certification mark on the unit or paperwork. The only marking I saw was FCC, which is not the same thing as electrical safety certification. Given the two-prong plug and three-prong outlets, those protection claims feel dubious at best and misleading at worst. The USB charging is also underwhelming. The total USB output is listed as 24W, which is not much for today’s devices, especially when that power is shared across multiple ports. We frequently use 35W or higher from a single USB charger, so I would not buy this for fast or modern device charging either. Because of the two-prong plug paired with three-prong outlets, I will absolutely not use this. I do not want a power strip that makes devices appear protected or grounded when they are not. For me, this is not a small design issue. It is a serious safety concern.

Convenient Design but Raises Some Safety Concerns
Size: 5FT, Color: White 2prong, Size: 5FT, Color: White 2prong
As other reviews have mentioned, this power strip does not provide true grounding protection. It allows devices with three-prong plugs to connect through a two-prong wall outlet, but the strip itself still relies on a two-prong connection. Because of that, I think it’s important to understand the potential safety limitations before using it, especially with higher-powered electronics. It does offer a large number of outlets and USB ports, which is convenient for older homes with limited access to modern plugs. However, considering the price, there are safer and more reliable alternatives available that may be a better long-term choice.

Good Buy - 4 USB Ports (USB C) Hurray! - Fits Well In Cable Management Box - Long Flat (!!!) Cord
Size: 10 Ft, Color: White
Good Product. I have 16 x 6 x 5 cable management boxes. This is the first power strip that I have found with 4 USB ports with USB C. Because it is a single row of outlets, the power supplies for 2 laptops fit in the box. I have those, a lamp, phone, and iPAD, with 1 extra USB and 1 USB C cord plugged in. The low profile inside the larger ventilated box keeps things from overheating. It has taken a bit of adjusting to get everybody in the right place but it works great. The flat cable is smart. It fits under the corner of the rug without leaving a bump.

Great for Any Inside Area
Size: 10 Ft, Color: White
I bought two of these these for my office at work and the power is unstable and there are not many outlets (work for the schools) and the building is old - built in 1977. These have done the trick and I have had no issues with my electronics.
