🌴Licuala Cordata Grow and Care Instructions🌴

~ Grow Instructions ~

Soak the palm seeds for two days in lukewarm water.
The seeds are sown in mineral-based cat litter (no clumping litter) or perlite (germ-free) in plastic-pots. Please sow the seeds on the mineral soil and cover the seeds with 5 mm - 10 mm mineral soil.
Then put the plastic pot in a ziplock bag - with a pot size of 6 cm , a ziplock bag of size 12 x 17 cm is recommended . Fill in the ziplock bag as much tap water with a few drops of universal fertilizer, so that after the absorption of the substrate a few mm of water remain on the bottom. Then close the ziplock bag - Ready!
More watering is not required because no moisture evaporates through the ziplock bag .
Location: on the windowsill or in a small greenhouse in partial shade, daytime temperatures at about 77-86 F, somewhat lower at night at 68-77 F. The resulting micro-climate provides ideal conditions for germination.
Germination time: 45 - 60 days, patience is required.

~ Care Instructions ~

Light Requirements

A great advantage of this palm is that it doesn’t have high light requirements. In fact, it prefers partial shade to complete shade, so you don’t need to worry about ensuring optimum levels of light for this plant.

Until it becomes established, direct light exposure should be avoided. The plant doesn’t tolerate full sun, and while it can build up a better tolerance as it matures, it will still prefer a shady location to a sunny one.

Strong, direct light coupled with dry and excessively warm conditions will damage the beautiful leaves of the ruffled fan palm.

Watering

The Lucuala grandis doesn’t need too much water. Its watering needs can be characterized as average and you can make sure the plant is well-hydrated if you water it whenever the surface of the potting mix dries out. Don’t overwater and also don’t allow the plant to go without any water for prolonged periods of time.

In winter, the growth of the plant slows down, therefore, its watering needs will also be lower.

Soil Type

The Licuala grandis is not picky about its soil type, however, for best results you should consider sandy soil amended with lots of humus.

Clay or loam soil will also work. Don’t bother testing soil pH levels, the plant is fine with either acidic, neutral or alkaline soil as long as it drains properly. You don’t want this plant to sit in too much water. As most houseplants, this too can be susceptible to root rot.

Let the top layer of the soil dry between watering sessions, and your ruffled fan palm should be ok. A bit of moisture or dampness of the soil is fine with the palm.

Temperature & Humidity

Although a plant that enjoys tropical and subtropical environments, it will tolerate slightly cooler temperatures.

You can grow the Licuala grandis in any region where the temperatures don’t fall below 32 °F or 0 degrees Celsius.

Anything lower than that, however, will not be tolerated. If you’re growing this palm in a container outdoors and winters in your region are cool or frosty, you must move this plant indoors for the winter.

Move the plant back outdoors in spring only if there’s no more risk of frost.

Fertilizing

Although these are slow-growing plants, a bit of fertilizer can help sustain steady growth and the production of beautiful and healthy foliage.

You can apply a slow release fertilizer 2-3 times during the growing season, or a liquid fertilizer once a month. A fertilizer formulation of 15-5-10 will work best.

Don’t fertilize during the winter seasons when the plant is no longer doing any growing. Also, don’t use too much fertilizer or in high concentrations (always dilute the fertilizer), because you can cause fertilizer burn. Over time, minerals from fertilizer can build up in the potting mix, so flushing the soil occasionally will help dilute excess fertilizer.

Potting & Repotting

Repotting can help the plant’s root system to develop better and aid the growth of the palm as well. Also, repotting is a good time to replace the old potting mix with fresh potting mix.

Because of the plant’s slow growth, you won’t have to worry about replacing the pot for this plant too often.

💚 Best Wishes, Your Plant Bitch (Quinn)

Beta, Alpha, Omega oh my!
Format: Kindle
Omegas are precious and given to Alphas & their packs... but the Betas want in too. To this end, the Beta government is rolling out its trial of assigning a Beta to each Alpha-Omega pack. But forcing a Beta into a pack where they are not wanted will not end well... Of course, no one expected the Omega to fall for the assigned Beta. Great read and cliffhanger

A familiar story, just with…..less.
Format: Kindle
So, as other reviewers make clear, this is very similar to Pack Darling and The Beta. It’s much closer aligned with The Beta, in plot and maybe more like Pack Darling with characters. That being said, I don’t hate this…..but it wasn’t great either. It’s both books mentioned but just….less. Less angst, less emotion, less feeling. The plot feels very half fleshed out, and the “bad guy” feels underwhelming. I didn’t really feel any real emotions from and of the male leads, except maybe Oliver. The others fell sorta flat for me. And Mika makes herself out to be this big bad ass straight outta training and then we never see it from here again with the one fitting room incident as the exception. SPOILER: The whole, “Oh, I’m actually probably an Omega, but I don’t wanna be but I do actually wanna be but no one can ever know my secret that I do nothing to hide “ thing fell so flat. She never commutes to believing she was secretly an omega, but also mentions her “secret” a lot. It just felt so manufactured. I’m intrigued enough to read part 2 and see how the author closes everything out, but this is not one I’ll recommend or ever come back to.

Good start to a series
Format: Kindle
I delayed reading the series for reasons I don’t remember. But my TBR list is huge so I thought I’d take a shot of this and I was pleasantly surprised. I didn’t think the blurb about it was anything special. But it was a very good book. It took some interesting twists and turns. I am so glad the second book is already out. Because I would not have waited patiently. Very slow burn but good storyline. 🔥🔥/5

A good read
Format: Kindle
Multiple points of view. 3 Alpha men and an Omega male. She is a Beta in training for a new program placing betas in Alpha/Omega packs. Mila is only doing the program for the money to take care of her dad. She wasn't expecting to fall for a pack but when she sees this packs Omega she is done for. There is just something about him. His Alphas are good looking as well. Too bad she is hiding a secret and their government is acting shady. I liked it and can't wait to see where their story goes.

Slightly repetitive but I did love some things
Format: Kindle
I love this type of story. And omegaverse is one of my all time favorite genres. But there are a few things that pulled me out of my enjoyment while I was reading. It was repetitive at times as well as struggled with telling not showing. So we didn’t always feel like we were experiencing things with the main character. There were also some plot holes but they may still be answered in part 2. Now this isn’t to be said I didn’t enjoy parts of the story. I loved the almost instant love between Mila and Oliver. And how he started changing around her.
